At Greatmats, we offer in various forms, including interlocking rubber tiles, plastic tiles, and foam tiles. Rubber gym floor tiles are a perfect solution if you need a tough, durable surface for free weight and exercise equipment areas. Foam tiles are a good choice to provide cushion and a softer surface for cardio and aerobic activities. Tiles also offer the benefit of easy transportation and installation, making them a favorite choice of both professional facilities and homeowners outfitting their home workout spaces.

Benefits of Gym Flooring Tiles

There are many reasons to choose gym tiles for your gym. Consider the following benefits of gym tiles:

  1. Manageable size is easy to transport
  2. Interlocking tiles make for a simple, DIY installation
  3. If a tile is worn, replace just that tile, rather than replacing the entire floor
  4. Tiles minimize wasted material for smaller installations
  5. Color varieties allow you to customize the appearance of your gym
  6. Suitable for commercial gym flooring or for a DIY home project

We've highlighted some of our most popular gym flooring tiles below to help you get started.

Interlocking Gym Floor Tiles

Interlocking rubber, plastic and foam gym flooring is simple to install. Most interlocking tiles have puzzle-type edges which allow the tiles to snap together. The tiles fit together securely and will not separate until you go to pull them apart. They make for a simple, yet stable interlocking floor.

Interlocking tiles allow for an easy DIY project, or for a temporary installation. These tiles are suitable for both large and smaller athletic and sporting facilities. Because the tiles are conveniently sized, they are more manageable and lighter than rolled rubber. There is no adhesive required for installation, which saves you both in time and expense.

Rubber Gym Floor Tiles

Rubber gym floor tiles are the most popular type of flooring for exercise rooms and rooms that house free weights. Rubber tiles are commonly used to protect gyms from heavy equipment such as treadmills, bikes, and free weights. Rubber serves as a durable, sound dampening barrier between the floor and the equipment, and is suitable for both home use and as a commercial gym flooring option. Unlike foam, which can be indented when placed under heavy equipment, rubber tiles are strong enough to support heavy equipment and to protect your subflooring from weights.

Interlocking tiles are easy to install, since they fit together like puzzle pieces and are sized so that one or two people can lift and carry them. These tiles require no adhesive, making for an easy DIY installation. You can also cut tiles with a sharp utility knife for wall-to-wall installations.

Rubber flooring tiles are available in thicknesses of .25 inch up to 1.25 inches and come in 2x2-, 3x3- and 4x4-foot sizes. Our heavy duty 3/4-inch thick interlocking tile is appropriate for high school or university football weight rooms, since it is highly durable, easy to install, and offers excellent cost savings.

If you're looking to add a bit of color to your weight room or exercise room, consider our custom colored rubber tiles, which are available with small minimum orders. You can also choose our full color rubber tiles, which offer maximum color options and design features. Incorporate your school's, gym's, or sports team's branding right into the floor's design.

In addition to rubber tiles, straight edge 4x6 foot, 4x8 foot, or 4x10 foot rubber mats and rolls of gym rubber are other options.

Rubber flooring rolls are a great solution for large-scale commercial gym floors. They're an economical choice, and can cover large areas with minimal seams. Standard roll lengths are 4 feet wide and can be ordered to any length desired as we can custom cut lengths as needed, provided the end-product is 25 linear feet or longer. Rubber rolls for gym floors are available in all black, black with fleck colors, or regrind material (rubber flooring scraps ground again to make new flooring) options. Some black and 10 percent color gym rolled rubber options are stocked in our Wisconsin warehouse for quick shipment. Stocked rolls range from 25 to 50 feet in length and in thicknesses of 3/8 inch and 8 mm.

Foam Gym Flooring Tiles

Foam gym floor tiles provide a soft, forgiving surface appropriate for aerobics, floor exercises, and martial arts. Foam floor tiles are popular for use in home gyms, professional multi-purpose exercise rooms, martial arts studios, and aerobic studios. Foam tiles are available in 2x2 feet and 1x1 meter sizes and in thicknesses ranging from 1/2 inch to 1-5/8 inch.

While foam tiles make for a comfortable, forgiving surface, they aren't built to withstand heavy weight. Leaving heavy exercise equipment on them for long periods of time may create indentations that do not go away. However, there's no beating foam tiles for areas in your gym where shock absorption, cushion, and a comfortable surface matter.

Foam tiles are easy to install, thanks to their lightweight construction. Interlocking tiles can be pressed together, and you can cut foam tiles with a sharp utility knife for wall-to-wall installations.

One of our most economical gym floor tiles are our Pro Martial Arts Mats 20 mm foam tiles, most commonly used for Taekwondo and other martial arts studios. These interlocking tiles are made of lead and latex free EVA foam and are shoe and boot resistant. They are double sided and double colored and non-absorbent and come with a 1-year limited warranty.

Plastic Gym Flooring Tiles

Durable raised PVC plastic flooring tiles provide both cushion and durability, falling in between rubber and foam tiles in terms of comfort and strength. Plastic tiles can handle the weight of heavy exercise equipment, and will not break down over time. They also offer the option of a full colored flooring at an affordable cost. Use plastic gym floor tiles for aerobic or cardio gym flooring.

PVC plastic tiles are ideal for installation on any surface, including carpet and damp basement floors where moisture is a concern.

Soft plastic modular gym tiles are a revolution in flooring technology for home and commercial gym floor installations. They provide durability, cushion, and longevity. Plastic flooring is great for aerobics and light, free-weight type uses.

This type of modular gym flooring tile is durable and will interlock easily, creating a seal that will stay together until you're ready to take the tiles apart. There is no glue or adhesive required for installation. These tiles provide excellent durability for a long lifespan.

If you're looking for a product which offers both plyometric and ergonomic benefits, choose our Staylock Orange Peel Floor Tiles. These tiles offer an ASTM fall height rating of 20 inches, and have excellent durability with a typical lifespan of 20 years.

We stock all our interlocking gym floors for quick shipment in quantities that are great enough so that we can handle handling large-scale commercial and home installations.

Gym flooring is shipped via ground or freight delivery depending on the style of flooring and size of order. Lighter foam tiles and smaller 2x2 feet rubber tiles can be delivered via ground service. Larger jobs and heavy rubber flooring materials will ship via freight delivery.

Greatmats' professional customer service team is available to assist you in determining the best gym flooring option for each specific sports or athletic flooring application.

Gym Flooring Tile Installation and Maintenance

The appropriate installation method for your gym flooring will depend on the material type, size, and style. Interlocking or modular gym floor tiles will not require glue and can be cut to fit for a wall to wall installation.

For flooring tiles that are offered with border strips, start the installation in one corner of the room that shares two long walls. Utilize as many border strips as possible along two walls of the room. Work the installation of the floor tiles in a triangle fashion from the starting corner point, cutting the last two walls of your gym floor to fit, using a sharp utility knife.

You should care for and clean your gym floor regularly. Consistent cleaning with common floor cleaners will make the flooring last longer. Always use a neutral pH floor cleaning product for all rubber flooring material.
