Options for Panel Mats

Whether you need to protect athletes when they land on the ground or crash into a wall, panel mats are the perfect solution. A panel mat combines a cushioned, high-impact foam interior with a durable exterior to enhance safety during workouts, practices, and games.

At Greatmats, our highly versatile gymnastics panel mats provide a safe landing spot when learning a new tumble routine or skill. Mount them as wall panel mats to protect athletes while chasing a ball out of bounds during multiple types of sports or in a wrestling room.

Types of Panel Mats

We offer two types of panel mats at Greatmats.

1. Folding

A folding panel mat made for tumbling at a gymnastics or cheer studio typically consists of individual sections of pads connected with a vinyl cover. The separate sections of these mats will measure 2 feet long by 4, 5, or 6 feet in width.

The overall length of this folding panel mat will depend on the number of sections in the mat.

Folding gymnastic mats often measure between 1-3/8 inches and 2-1/2 inches in thickness.

2. Wall

We offer wall-mounted pads in multiple size options, so customers can cover the required space easily.

Wall pads are available in heights from 4 to 8 feet for indoor use. The majority of panels made for indoor use will be 2 feet in width.

For outdoor use on a fence at a baseball, football, softball, or soccer field, products are available in heights from 2 to 8 feet. The widths of those panels are typically 4 feet.

Wall hanging pads typically measure between 2 and 4 inches in thickness.

Panel Mats Q&A

Which panel mats are best for specific use types?

Finding the folding panel mats that are best for different uses include focusing on how you’ll use them. Folding mats work great for gymnastics where you need cushioning for landing and falls. Mats around 2 inches in thickness are best for maximum shock absorption. Thinner mats work better in kids’ playrooms.

What is the best folding gym panel mat?

The best folding gym panel mat will depend on your needs. Mats that fold down to a smaller size are ideal for locations where you need to store them between uses. If you’ll leave them in place most of the time, you may want a much larger coverage area. For the majority of our customers, the 5x10 Foot Folding Gym Mat is the best choice.

How do you install gym wall panel mats?

To install gym wall panel mats, you’ll either use a Z-clip installation, where you connect separate metal clips on the wall and back of the pad; a direct attachment with screws and nails; a bolt-and–plate technique for a chain-link fence; or hook-and-loop strips.
