Easy fast DIY installation for home portable dance floor kit, Tap dance portable flooring
Dance practice at the house is simple to set up and fun to do with our portable dance floor. It provides a convenient practice area for any dancer, although it’s most successful with tapping.
Dance Flooring for Home
This portable dance floor manufacturers kit features nine of our durable, vinyl topped polypropylene tiles. Each is waterproof and measures 12-1/8 x 12-1/8 x 1/2 inches. The addition of our beveled borders and corners reduces the tripping hazard.
The length and width of the final assembly with the borders attached is 41-1/8 x 41-1/8 inches, with a usable spot of 36-3/8 x 36-3/8 inches. Additional kits can be attached for more space. These kinds of floors can be installed on top of any hard subsurface, including concrete, wood, or ceramic. It is not suitable for installation over carpeting of any type. These are designed for residential use only and are not high heel proof.
This product is not rated for commercial dancing needs or as ballet floor for home, and it is not warrantied against activities that could cause puncturing, such as stomping of high heels.
Flat Surface Event Flooring
This dance deck portable flooring is ideal for tapping practices, as it will carry a beautiful sound, and it has the durability that customers will need to stand up to regular use.
It consists of a vinyl layer over the top of a plastic sub-base, which provides a design that will resemble hardwoods without the significant expense that particular type of portable floor can carry. It has a Shore A 85 hardness rating, which means there is little to no cushioning included, which is ideal for this style.
The base on the bottom is slightly raised above the subfloor, which allows for air circulation beneath it, which may be important when using it for dance mats in basements, where moisture seepage on the concrete is commonly found.
It will not work as well for a ballet dance floor for home, because of the relatively small usable area and because there will be slight seams once the assembly process is completed. At Greatmats, we offer quite a few easy to install rolls of marley that will provide the larger area to workout for ballet and other dancer styles.
Easy to Assemble Parts
Our kits represent some of the best selections for a portable dance floor. Customers appreciate the fact that they can put the tiling together in almost no time at all. The tiling will interlock tightly together, which ensures it will maintain its integrity throughout constant use.
Everything snaps together with very little force required, including the beveled border strip edging. Two of the edges of each piece will have loops, and the other edges will have tabs. Just line up the loops and tabs and pop them tightly to complete the install process.
As a group, all of the portable dance floor parts weigh only 18 pounds, so the unit as a whole is easily storable once the workout is completed. At 1/2 inch in thickness, the entire system does not require much space to store, as everything can be stacked to make the most of every sq inch available.
Understand that it is not made to serve for an indoor and outdoor use case. It is not UV treated, and it fits better in climate controlled indoor locations only. It is usable for a dance recital, as a customer can expand the coverage by purchasing extra kits.
FAQ Portable Dance Floor Q&A
How much is a portable dance floor?
The final cost will depend in part on the materials in use. Expect to pay between $2 and $9 per square foot for a residential or studio dance floor that has a portability aspect. For those seeking a marley floor system that consists of a vinyls sheet that can be rolled up and stored after the practice or performance, the price will be closer to the low end of the range. For interlockable pieces that generate a portable sprung dance floor that takes some of the pressure off the lower body joints of the dancers, costs approach the upper section of the range.
What dance subfloor is best for tap dancing?
The best selection will be a hardwood subflooring, such as maple or oak. However, this is not always practical to find in dance floors, especially for practices held at the house in a spare bedroom or in the basement. For these situations and for a moveable tap floor for practicing, a 3x3 dance floor panels dance kit creates a safe location for students to work on their moves and craft a new series of steps. Our unit is far safer than making use of taps on 3x3 in ceramic tile, as the aluminum taps may create marks that are difficult to remove from ceramics.
How much does it cost to make a portable dance floor?
Depending on the kind of cushioning and durability of the materials that are desired, as well as the overall coverage needed, costs of $50 to $500 or more are possible. Our 3x3 ft home dance floor carries a cost of about $75. For those who need to add cushioning underneath the main portable dance floor tiles, the costs will increase a bit too.
What can I use as a tap dance surface at the house?
Some people will choose to try to create a simple, temporary option for a tap board by laying down a sheet of plywood at 4x4 or 4x8. However, plywoods often have rough surfaces, which could result in significant splinters. The sound will not be perfect with plywood either. Large sheets are hard to store as well. A high quality kit, such as our selection that covers 9 sq ft with a border edging to prevent tripping, is the far better choice, as it delivers a true sound for the taps. Each of the nine pieces pull apart when practicing time is completed, which greatly simplifies storing them.
Can you put a DIY dance floor on top of carpet?
Going atop carpeting with a portable dance floor for home can be a challenge, including with this product. If not installed properly, it could slide around atop the carpeted subflooring, creating an unsafe basement dance floor over carpet. Look for something that has a bit of a grip on the bottom section to discourage sliding. When installing a product atop carpet properly, no extra padding is needed underneath, as the carpeted layer provides just the right amount of cushion for the dancers.
Can you use this product for tap dance as well.
