Fast & Easy Install: 5x5 ft Dance Floor Kit
Whether you're looking for a sturdy flooring for tap dancing in a studio setting or to set up a practice area in your home, the Tap Dance Floor Kit 5/8 Inch x 5x5 Ft. kit is an excellent choice. This tap floor for home use is going to stand up to plenty of traffic, while also giving dancers the feedback they need from a tap floor.
Design of the Tap Dance Tile Kit 5x5 ft
You, your students or kids can practice tap dancing on this wood grain finished material that consists of a vinyl surface that is connected to a plastic base that allows to you snap each tile together. The quality of the vinyl is outstanding, as it is of a commercial grade. And it looks nice with its wood grain finish.
This plastic base provides excellent durability, as well as a sturdy material to ensure good footing for the dancers. Each individual tile in the tap mat kit measures 1 by 1 foot in size. You'll connect each of the tiles to create the flooring area. When the kit is completed, you'll have a 5x5 foot tap dance flooring made up of nine modular raised vinyl top tiles atop the polypropylene plastic base.
Portable 5x5 Tap Dance Floor
When you need to create a tap dance floor outside of your studio, you'll love the portability of our mobile dance floor kit. You easily can pack up these tiles and transport them wherever needed, assembling them for use. Once your event is over, it's also easy to disassemble the tiles and return them to the original location.
For larger installations, you'll want to use multiple kits or check out a portable dance floor product option, giving you plenty of space for accommodating multiple dancers. Because this tap mat flooring option is modular, you can create any size of floor. This gives the Tap Dance Floor Kit a tremendous amount of versatility. We do sell the tap mat flooring as individual tiles, should you want to create a non-standard size of floor. Contact our customer service team to determine what your ordering options are.
Tap Floor Kit Use Cases
You can choose to create small island installations in a stage area or in the front of a room, allowing for seating to fill the remainder of the room. Or use a wall-to-wall installation to create a large practice area in a studio or at your home.
Our tap mat flooring kit is not limited to just tap dancing or clogging. Other styles of dance can take advantage of the high quality and durable flooring that we offer, including the following.
- Ballroom
- Banquet
- Clogging
- Flamenco
- Hip Hop
- Irish
- Latin
The tap dance floor can replace traditional tap boards in the home, on a theater stage, or in the studio. It is engineered for indoor and outdoor use (if installed over a hard, flat surface). It will not absorb moisture and features a raised plastic base that allows for airflow beneath the floor.
For ballet, modern, or jazz dancing practice, we would recommend a vinyl marley flooring material. Dancers with bare feet or with thin shoes probably will feel the seams in the tap tiles, which may not be the most comfortable, necessitating the marley flooring. Some dance studios will lay out these tap dance floor tiles and use them as a base floor for the types of dancing listed above. Then whenever a marley flooring is needed, they'll roll out a marley mat over the top of this flooring.

Creating Multipurpose Rooms
Some buildings that often are rented for multiple purposes may choose to have these kit tiles on hand to create dance floors for wedding receptions, anniversary parties, or birthday parties. A school may want to have this type of flooring available for school dances in areas where a portable floor is more convenient.
The tiles then can be disassembled to return the building back to its original flooring. These dance tiles are an excellent option for giving a room multiple purposes whenever needed.
Tap Kit Durability
Our portable tap floor is the best designed and most durable portable kit option on the market. The materials in our tiles are waterproof and feature a protective wear layer. The commercial grade luxury vinyl that sits atop the plastic base measures 3 mm in thickness. Each tile has a thickness of 5/8 inches with the vinyl surface and plastic base measured together.
You can wear any kind of shoes when using this flooring, as it will even stand up to clogging shoes. The tap mat kit is a Made in the USA product and features a 5-year limited manufacturer's warranty.
Installation Tips
Our portable Tap Dance Floor Kit is easily assembled and disassembled, featuring a snap-together design that can be used numerous times. No adhesive is required to create the kit floor, and you won't need any special tools.
Each individual tile weighs 2 pounds and covers 1 square foot. This means it's easy for one person to assemble the 5 by 5 foot finished kit. However, moving each completed kit floor may be a little more difficult for one person, as the finished kit covers 25 square feet and weighs about 55 pounds.
You'll want to install these tap floor tiles over a hard, flat surface. Although our tiles are UV treated are able to be used outdoors, we do not recommend installing them over grass, as it may be too soft for the dance floor kit and permanent outdoor installations are not recommended.
Two sides of the individual tiles include male pegs, while the other two sides have female loops. You'll place the male peg over the female loop and step down until it clicks in place, ensuring the two tiles fit tightly together. For the layout, just point the female loop sides in the directions where you want to add more tiles and work your way through the tiles in the kit.
Once you have the loops lined up with the male pegs, you can step or push down on the edges of the tiles until they click into place.
The installation process is easy to follow, as long as you remember that the female loops should always be going in the same direction and the surface you're installing over is plenty firm. This modular floor tile can generally be installed over carpeting in commercial and many home installations. This installation is not guaranteed to work, as with some home carpeting, the padding and carpet thickness can vary. If the user is experiencing any issues when installing over carpet then the user may have to install some other flat surface under the tiles, such as plexiglass or plywood.
When you're ready to add an edge to your dance floor, you'll attach the ramped border pieces using the same process you used to install the individual tiles. Snap the male pegs of the tiles onto the female border pieces, and snap the male border pieces onto the female loops on the tiles.
By purchasing individual tiles that can be added to the kit, it allows you to create a larger space or to create a rectangular-shaped area of tap floor.
Disassembly Tips
When you're ready to disassemble the tiles, just lift up on the edge of the tile that has the male pegs while pressing down or stepping on the edge of the tile with the female loops. The two tiles should easily separate without damaging the hook and peg system, as these tiles are made from a tough and durable type of polypropylene plastic.
If you have a large number of tiles to install or disassemble, we recommend using a pull cart so you can stack the tiles and quickly move through the room.
Tap Floor Maintenance
You will take care of this tap mat product as you would any type of vinyl flooring. You'll want to sweep the flooring on a daily basis to make sure it stays as clean as possible. You can use a damp mop on the flooring with a common household floor cleaner and water, as long as you avoid using bleach.
Wood Grain Look Ordering Options
Depending on availability, you have quite a few options for the type of color or pattern designs in the vinyl on these tap mat tiles. The options include:

Wow! This dance practice floor is great. I purchased the 5'x5' size. With the included instructions, it was fun and easy to assemble and ready to go in about 20 minutes. Kind of like an adult version of Legos! I had to use my full body weight to snap some of the tiles together but it was by no means difficult. It feels so much better on my joints than a hard (concrete) floor. So far I've used it for tap and hip hop practice. I wish the floor of my entire practice room was like this.
