How to Install StayLock Edge Borders
To install StayLock edge borders and your tile floor, you will need a measuring tape, straight edge, rubber mallet, and utility knife.- Begin by installing the StayLock tiles. Start in the top corner of the space and work your way across, row by row.
- As you install the tiles, make sure that the loops face outwards, and keep all of the tiles in the same direction.
- Use a rubber mallet or your hands to click the hooks and loops into place. The male tiles fit into the loops of the female tiles.
- Once all of the tiles are in place, you can add your border strips. The male border strips have nubs, while the female border strips have loops coming off the edge.
- If your exposed tile edge is a female edge, you will need to choose a male border strip. If the edge is a male edge, you will need a female border strip.
- Start in a corner and work your way around, installing the border strips. You can use a rubber mallet or your hands to connect the border strips to the tiles.
- Install corner pieces in the corner gaps left after you’ve installed the edge pieces. These snap together onto the edge pieces.
You can install edge pieces around all of the edges of your flooring, or you can cut tiles to fit up against a wall edge. If you want to cut the tiles to fit, you can do so with a sharp utility knife.
- Measure the distance remaining between your last tile and your wall or edge, like the edge of a patio.
- Mark the distance on the tile that you need to cut using a marker.
- Use a straight edge to guide your cuts, and make a series of shallow scores with a sharp utility knife.
- Continue making shallow scores until you’ve cut through the tile.
- Install these cut tiles last to complete your flooring.
