What Are PET Carpet Fibers?

PET, short for polyethylene terephthalate, is a relatively new type of carpet fiber that is friendly for the environment. It consists of sterilized recycled plastic containers, giving it impressive durability without sacrificing the flexibility and softness customers want from their carpeting.

Versus a traditional nylon carpet fiber, PET fibers offer a material that will not cause problems for people who have allergies. The PET fibers maintain the same level of comfort and style of nylon fibers. They also maintain their color for longer while resisting fade.

Our 24x24 inch carpet tiles are available in black, charcoal, or grey colors that will continue to look like new for years, even when exposed to some sunlight.

The manufacturer uses a needle-punch technique at the production factory to secure the PET fibers in place, ensuring they will not pull loose or unravel.

Because of our use of this needle-punch technique, we are able to offer these 24x24 carpet tiles at a discount in the cost per square ft versus similar models. Our squares will outperform the cheap carpet self-stick tiles found on the market as well.

The PET fibers are extremely safe to use in almost any type of layout. They are latex and VOC free. The manufacturer sterilizes the recycled plastic bottles and containers before creating the PET fibers, delivering additional safety.

Installing Hobnail Carpet Squares

Before installing these pieces, clean the subfloor thoroughly. This involves removing any dry debris from the subfloor with a broom or vacuum cleaner.

Installers can place these squares over the top of almost any kind of firm subflooring. This includes existing cement, laminate, ceramic, wood, or vinyl flooring.

These tiles even will successfully go over the top of an existing low pile carpet, as long as the existing carpet has a pile height of 3 mm (about 1/8 inches) or less. If going over the top of the carpet, the manufacturer recommends cleaning it with a carpet cleaner if it is highly soiled.

If odors exist in the current subflooring, it is possible that the odors will continue to be noticeable once the squares go over the top. Try to remove any odors from the subfloor before starting the installation process.

To begin installing the carpet tiling, start in one corner of the room. Peel the protective backing from the reverse side of the square to reveal the pre-applied adhesive.

This is a strong adhesive, so take care to avoid touching the exposed adhesive to the subfloor or other objects until it’s time to lay the square in place. The pre-applied adhesive can temporarily stick to the hands or skin of the installer, so hold the carpet by the edges.

Position the tile in the desired location. Do not press on it until it is exactly in the right place. Installers can make slight adjustments to the position of the square after setting it down, but the square is very difficult to move after pressing on it.

Line up the next square in the row and follow the same layout process. Upon reaching a wall or stationary object, use a utility knife to cut the square to fit.

Maintenance and Care

Taking care of our 24x24 peel and stick carpet tiles will involve a similar process to any other carpeting materials. The PET fibers do not require specialized maintenance techniques.

To start the cleaning process, vacuum the carpet regularly. The manufacturer recommends vacuuming a few times per week in high traffic areas. The pile may become matted without regular vacuuming.

With spills or soils, the owner should spot clean the carpet as needed. Pick up solids, such as pet waste, as quickly as possible. Use a rag or paper towel to blot any liquid spills. Customers can use a spot cleaner made for carpets on the spots, as long as it consists of gentle materials.

The manufacturer suggests using a carpet cleaning machine or hiring a professional carpet cleaning service every one to three years, depending on the amount of soil and foot traffic the carpet typically receives.
