Each roll of turf has a 1/2-inch pile height in the nylon blades, giving them a look that resembles real, tightly cut grass. The nylon blades attach to a 3mm foam backing pad layer, which is about 1/8 inches thick.

This foam layer ensures that the blades will not pull loose when placed under the stress of players running and stepping on them, but it also provides a bit of cushioning when installed over a concrete subfloor.

Pattern and Texture Options

This turf is only available in a green color meant to resemble actual grass.

With a 1/2-inch pile height, baseball and softball players do not have to worry about catching their cleats on the blades of turf and tripping. They can work on all aspects of their game, just as they would with natural grass, as this material provides a highly realistic practice area.

Common Use Options

This turf is the best alternative to use at an indoor baseball or softball facility. It does not need significant maintenance and care to keep it in good shape.

When players are working against a pitching machine in the indoor hitting facility, coaches will be able to have the players stand in the same spot without worrying about wearing away the turf. If you try this in an area with natural grass, the grass will wear away and leave ruts in the dirt in very little time.

The 15-foot width of this artificial turf allows teams to set up multiple lanes protected with nets for hitting against pitching machines or against live pitchers working behind pitching screens. By setting up multiple hitting lanes, it’s a more efficient means of giving the entire team some quality time in the batting cage.

Additionally, if the players want to work on pitching, the players can continue to stride across the same area of the turf as they throw pitch after pitch without wearing away the blades of artificial grass.

In a large facility, customers can use the roll of turf to cover the entire flooring area, creating a spot for working on fielding ground balls or for working on base-running.

Installation Options

When installing the batting cage turf, installers will need to use carpet tape, vinyl tape, or adhesive to ensure that the turf remains tight to the ground without sliding around as players perform their workouts.

In the indoor practice facility, customers can install the padded turf directly over an asphalt or concrete base. The padding layer helps to soften the bounce of the ball as it moves across the turf, giving it a close resemblance to natural grass.

Cleaning and Maintenance Requirements

Do not allow gum inside the facility where the batting cage turf is in use. You can scrape gum loose from the nylon turf blades, but it takes quite a bit of work. Try to avoid allowing sunflower seed shells on the turf too, as this complicates the cleaning process.

To remove other dry debris from the turf layer, installers can use a vacuum cleaner or a leaf blower.

To wash the turf, lightly rinse the blades with a garden hose and a sprayer. Do not apply an excessive amount of water unless the area has floor drains available. After rinsing, allow the material to dry naturally in the air. You can bring in large floor fans to try to speed up the drying process, but do not use heaters directly on the nylon blades.

A minimum of 20 linear feet is required for this product.
