Let's compare indoor dog agility flooring to determine what is the best surface for dog agility.

Dog agility flooring is designed to provide a safe place to train and compete in dog agility that will offer both traction and cushion.

Today we’ll compare three of Greatmats most popular dog agility flooring solutions - Dog Agility Mats Interlocking Tiles and Foam Kids and Gym Mats Premium, and rubber flooring. All include EVA foam, which has been best tested and approved time and time again to be the best flooring for dog agility cushion while training and competing. The main differences will come in size, thickness, and durability.

Surface Texture and Durability for Dog Agility

The big advantage of the Dog Agility Foam Mats is the fact that the felt-like surface is very gentle on the dogs’ feet. It provides excellent traction and will give way to aggressive claws, preventing injury without affecting the performance of the flooring.

While the Foam Mats Premium has a thatch textured surface on one side and the same type of felt-like surface texture on the other side, you can get a surface very similar to the dog agility mats. Just install these mats with the thatch side down. These mats are designed for home use only and are not commercially rated. These mats are 2x2 foot in size, meaning they can ship via UPS or FedEx instead of a freight truck.

If the look of dog nail punctures is a concern, Greatmats rubber flooring rolls are the best solution. The rubber will resist puncturing while still offering excellent traction. While there is rarely an issue with EVA foam dog agility flooring under agility equipment, rubber flooring will ensure that the surface will not become damaged. Rubber matting also won't indent under heavy equipment or furniture.

Flooring Thickness for Dog Agility

Foam Kids and Gym Mats Premium will be the thinnest foam option at 5/8 inch. The dog agility mats offer the most cushion at 3/4 inch thick and offer the most cushion. We recommend choosing a 3/8-inch rubber flooring thickness for dog agility.

Installation of Dog Agility Surfaces

The installation process for both of the foam-only options is a simple as pushing jigsaw puzzle pieces together. A little more goes into the installation of the rubber topped dog agility flooring as we are now added a second layer of rolled rubber.

Dog Agility Flooring Color Options

Lastly is the color. Dog Agility Mats Interlocking Tiles will give you three color options with blue and black. Foam Mats Premium tiles are available in many bright and bold colors as well as black. Rubber flooring is often available in black or black with a variety of color fleck options.
