If you want to maximize the safety of your gym, athletic facility, sports field, or other space, then it’s important to invest in quality pole padding. At Greatmats, we offer an excellent selection of pole and column padding, and we can custom-make our products to the exact dimensions of your poles and columns.

Whether you have poles, square or rectangular columns, or I beams at your facility, you’ll just need to take a few measurements to be able to custom order your pole padding.

How to Measure for Pole Padding

If you have a regular pole, also called a post, you’ll need to provide us with the diameter of the pole. You can find that in a few simple steps:

  1. Use a soft measuring tape and wrap it around the post to find the circumference in inches.

  2. Divide the circumference by 3.14 to calculate the pole’s diameter in inches.

How to Measure for Square or Rectangle Column Padding

When working with a square or rectangular column, you’ll need to provide us with the measurement of each side in inches.

  1. Label each side of your column in order, using A, B, C, and D to designate each side.

  2. Use a measuring tape and measure the width of each side in inches.

  3. Tell the Greatmats customer service representative how you’ve labeled the column and the corresponding measurements for each side.

How to Measure I-Beam Pads for Pole and Column Padding

Greatmats also offers I-beam padding. Some facilities put the padding just on the shorter side of an I-beam, while others decide to add the padding to the longer sides, too, for more protection.

  1. Use a measuring tape to measure the width of side A, the shorter and exposed side of the I-beam.

  2. If you want padding for the longer sides, too, then label each longer side B and C and take and record those measurements.

  3. If you want padding on all four sides of an I-beam, follow the measuring instructions for rectangular column padding.

If you have angled I-beams, in which the base and upper portion of the beam have different measurements, you’ll need to take two sets of measurements.

  1. Start by labeling sides A, B, and C of the I-beam. Side A will be your shorter, exposed side, and sides B and C are the two longer sides.

  2. Measure the widths of A, B, and C in inches at the base of the beam.

  3. Measure the widths of A, B, and C at the height where you want the padding to stop, which is usually around 4 or 6 feet high.

  4. Provide those measurements to your Greatmats customer service representative.

How to Choose the Right Pole Padding for Your Facility

At Greatmats, we offer an excellent selection of post padding options. Our pad assortment includes covers for square, rectangular, and round poles, I-beam, and pilaster covers. Our safety pads are designed to wrap around poles and posts, and they’re custom manufactured for an excellent fit.

When shopping for pole padding, consider whether custom dimensions are available so you can get the right fit for your facility. Additionally, look for pole padding with foam that’s at least two inches thick. Many of our pad options are three or four inches thick for optimal shock absorption and protection for athletes. Our pole pads are also ASTM rated, so you can buy them confidently knowing that you’re investing in a quality product.

Consider where you’ll be using the pads, too. We offer many products suitable for indoor and outdoor use, and all of our pole pads are designed to be very easy to install and remove as needed.

It’s also important to order pole padding that’s durable and designed to last. Our pads feature durable vinyl covers and quality manufacturing right here in the USA. Many products are available with fire-rated panel options to enhance your facility’s safety. Plus, you can choose from a wide range of colors to ensure the pads will make an excellent addition to your facility.

In addition to pole padding, be sure to explore our gym wall padding. These wall pads are custom-made to meet your dimensions, and we can include cutouts for areas like light switches and electrical outlets, so the pads are a perfect fit for your facility. These pads are available in a wide range of colors, and we can even customize them with your facility’s graphics.
