Feb. 28, 2017 -- The American Kyuki-Do Federation is continuing its venture into new territory this weekend as it prepares to for its second tournament focused entirely on grappling and throwing - the first of its kind in Northwest Wisconsin.

Kyuki-Do, a form of mixed martial arts, has traditionally had a throwing/grappling component to its tournaments, but as interest of its members has increased in the arts of judo and jiu jitsu, the AKF decided to introduce throwing and grappling-exclusive tournaments late in 2016 with a tournament in Edgerton, Wisc.

This Saturday, March 4, the AKF will host its second Greatmats-sponsored AKF Grappling and Throwing Tournament - at the Metropolis Resort and Convention Center in Eau Claire, Wisc.

More than 55 people, ranging from age 6 to 62, are expected to compete at all levels from novice to experienced.

Online registration ends March 1. Currently, 11 different AKF academies will be represented at the tournament.

Events Coordinator Master Rick Steinmaier is excited about hosting the double-elimination tournament at a destination venue, such as the Metropolis Resort and Convention Center, and added, ''The continuation of a stand-alone event like this is contingent on the support of the members.''
