How to Install Gymnasium Carpet Covers
Understanding how to install gymnasium carpet covers, like the GymPro EcoRoll Carpet Floor Cover, can make the process easier and ensure optimal results. The following steps will guide you through the process:- Thoroughly clean your gym floor according to the manufacturer’s recommendations to remove loose dirt and debris.
- To install the covers, always unload the top core from your GymPro EcoRoll Carpet EZ-Roll Storage Rack first. Make sure the easy winding handle is securely fastened to the core and that the safety locking pin is in place before you move the rack. You will need to remove the pins, which prevent the wheel from moving, before deploying the cover.
- Lock all four casters on the rack. One person will stand behind the rack to make sure rolls are deploying smoothly. Pull the rolls out over the floor in the desired location.
- Once the rolls are completely pulled out, you’ll need to remove the Hook Tape Tabs that secure one roll to the next when they’re wound onto the rack.
- Unlock the rack’s casters and move the rack to the next location. Lock all of the casters again and repeat the steps.
- The rolls do not need to overlap. They butt up against each other. You may choose to attach them with a top hook seaming tape (further instructions on that process are below).
- When the system is new, allow ⅛ inch between each roll to provide room for the product to relax and flatten.
The top hook seaming tape connects the carpet rolls and is easy to install:
- Touch the tape to the top of the first seam, starting at the end.
- Smooth the end and make sure the tape is straight.
- Walk the length of the seam, touching the tape to the floor covering approximately every 10 feet.
- Once the tape is completely covering the seam, walk down the seam to smooth it out and make sure it’s fully attached.
- Repeat the process until all seams are connected.
You can also use a TopHook Tape Roller to simplify this process. The seam tape comes in 75-foot rolls, but you may need to cut them depending on the dimensions of your covers and your facility. Keep in mind that the fewer short pieces you have, the quicker and easier it will be to deploy the tape and then to later roll it back up.
How to Stow Carpet Gym Floor Covers
There are several methods that you can use to stow carpet gym floor covers. These methods offer several different advantages, so whether you’re working with a smaller facility or a larger gym with lots of area to cover, one of these methods should work well for you.Method 1: Manual Loading on the Lay-Up Racking System
- Center the rack and lock the wheels.
- Begin rolling evenly across the width.
- Use the built-in straightening bar for clean edges.
This is a low-tech, budget-friendly option that requires no electricity or extra equipment. Since the rack is compact and mobile, you can easily roll it into a storage space, even when you have limited space. This is a good option for smaller facilities, including gyms with fewer cover rolls to manage and store.
Method 2: Power Winder

- Mount your GymPro Powerwinder to the carpet floor cover storage rack.
- Engage the winder’s 115V motor.
- Let the machine roll at 32 RPM.
This option is fastest, so it’s great for facilities that have large spaces and multiple cover rolls. It reduces physical strain, since there is no manual cranking needed, and the winder takes care of the process of winding up the covers. The winder helps create more consistent rolls, delivering a smooth, tight finish every time. It’s an ideal choice for schools or venues with frequent setup and teardown needs.
Method 3: TopHook Seaming Tape Winder

- Feed the seam tape into the GymPro TopHook Tape Winder.
- Turn the handle to roll it up neatly.
- Store the tape roll in a dry place for reuse; you can purchase a Seam Tape Holder for your storage rack.
This method helps keep seam tape organized, preventing tangling and mess. Since TopHook Seam Tape can be reused up to 50 times, keeping it neat and organized can lead to cost savings. The winder speeds up the teardown process since there’s no wrestling with loose tape. It makes for cleaner storage and a faster setup next time.
Consider investing in a GymPro Storage Rack Cover to help keep dust and debris off of your flooring while it’s in storage.
