What is the purpose of Clean Room Mats?

Clean room mats perform an important task in environments where sterile conditions are a must.

Clean Room Floor Mats often have a tacky top layer that will pull dust and other debris from the soles of shoes as people enter the sterile environment room.

Facilities, such as laboratories, research areas, manufacturing centers, hospitals, and food service facilities, will use these to grab unwanted particles and contaminants before they enter the facility. Some of these floor mats will even dissipate static electricity from the person who comes in contact with them, protecting sensitive electronic equipment in the room.

There are a few different styles of clean room mats, ensuring that you can match up the style of sticky mat with the types of debris and impurities that you need to remove from people’s feet before they make entry into the room.

Greatmats’ catalog contains a few different options for clean room mats that can match the needs you have in your facility.

What Are the Easiest Sticky Clean Room Mats to Use?

For an area where you need to provide protection from contaminants, but where you don’t want to have to worry about cleaning the mat after it’s used, disposable clean room mats are the perfect answer. They also provide a greater level of cleanliness than a simple rubber entrance mat.

With a disposable mat, you’ll use the adhesive on the top layer to catch contaminants, such as dust particles and small debris, as a person walks into the room or as someone rolls a cart through the doorway.

Once this top layer becomes too soiled to capture the level of contaminants that you need for your clean room, you can simply peel off the top layer of the material and reveal a clean sheet that will begin collecting contaminants again. Discard the soiled sheet after removing it.

These sheets are extremely easy to use, making them ideal for facilities that don’t have maintenance personnel who are able to keep the mats fresh and sterile through regular cleaning.

With the Tac-Mat Contamination Control Dry Mat, you’ll have 30 sheets per pad. Each pad has a printed number on it, so you always know exactly how many sheets remain on the pad, allowing you to have a fresh, new pad ready to go as needed.

Each Tac-Mat uses polyethylene film for the adhesive sheets, so they will stand up to constant foot traffic and to traffic from carts.

It uses a water-based sticky material, which reduces the possibility of the adhesive transferring from the tacky sheets and sticking to the bottom of your shoe.

Another disposable option is the Tacky Mat, which also has 30 sheets per pad. It includes an antimicrobial surface, which means it is appropriate to use in medical facilities where dangerous particles beyond typical dust and debris cannot enter a room.

Disposable pads are great for reducing the amount of cleaning that maintenance teams must do on the entire building at the end of the day. If you place these sticky pads at the exit doors of a dining or break room in the building, for example, you’ll catch food particles before they end up being carried elsewhere in the building.

Because both of these options have flat edges and rectangular shapes, you can place multiple pads side by side to create a larger coverage space. The Tacky Mat measures 18 by 46 inches, while the Tac-Mat measures 26 by 45 inches.

Do Anti-Static Mats Actually Work?

Yes, as facilities with sensitive electronic equipment need to be certain that no one entering particular rooms is carrying any static charge that they could transfer to the equipment, causing a failure or loss of functionality of computer chips.

In some situations, where flammable chemicals are present, someone inadvertently discharging static electricity could end up causing the chemicals to ignite, resulting in a dangerous fire.

As employees walk, roll an office chair across carpeting, or even shift their position in the chair, it’s possible that they will generate some static electricity. When they later touch things like electrical equipment, the static could discharge into the equipment or flammable chemicals, causing damage.

By having employees walk across these anti-static clean mats, you’ll have a better chance of removing the static from each employee before they inadvertently discharge it in a computer room.

One of our most popular static dissipative mats is the Statfree B2 Roll. These are blue clean room mats, consisting of a vinyl construction that will give you long lasting performance.

Each roll is 50 feet in length and 2.5 feet in width, providing a runway for people entering the room to walk across, ensuring that they take several steps on the mat to fully discharge any static before entering a room.
