Sticking with the basics and implementing a tool, we're going add an element to step into elbows. If your attacker grabs your non-weapon side, step in striking the grabbing arm. Turn facing the same direction as your attacker and hit him/her in the plexus. Using your tool, place it behind the attacker's head to aid in a throw.

The concept is the same, if they grab the weapon side.
