Raison D’être Dance Project On Marley For Traveling Performances

By Lisa Hobbie Created: December, 2023

Genevieve Trygstad-Burke and Erin Levy started the Raison D’être Dance Project (RDE) in Bozeman, Montana in 2017. Trygstad-Burke and Levy wanted to build a company for dancers who wanted to dance and perform at a level, but who also had day jobs, a family, or other life obligations. As of 2023, RDE is a certified nonprofit 501(c)(3).

“Dancers perform two to five times per year at small events and collaborations, large productions featuring live musicians and handmade costumes, and are even hired to be in a local production of The Nutcracker,” explains Deann Snyder, a founding member of RDE and a member of the RDE Artistic Director Committee. “We have a small but growing adult class program that offers ballet and contemporary/modern to the community. We are well known for delivering emotive and thoughtful performances with beautiful original costumes.”

A Portable Dance Floor For Traveling Performances

Given that RDE performs out in the community, the studio needs a quality dance floor that is easy to transport and suitable for performances and practices. The studio that RDE has rented four the last four and a half years has a Greatmats marley dance floor. “We loved the marley we were dancing on, so we wanted to get the same kind,” explains Snyder.

A donor sponsored the purchase of RDE’s new marley, and the group performed on the dance floor for the first time in June 2023. “We hope to have it in our new studio space when we find a new home,” Snyder says. “It gave us the perfect amount of friction for sliding and pointe work, and we just loved it. Everyday we warmed up on it and shared our intention for the show and really bonded.”

RDE bought enough flooring for their 32x32-foot stage. Snyder says that the installation process was simple and required minimal trimming.

Not only did Snyder appreciate the new marley floor, several dancers noted that the new floor was “the best.”

Why Rosco Adagio Marley Is Ideal for Dance Studios like RDE

Rosco Adagio Marley is a versatile dance floor that’s suitable for hard and soft shoes. It’s ideal for all dance types, including tap, ballet, modern, jazz, Irish, Flamenco, hip hop, ballroom, barefoot dancing, and more. It provides the versatility that a dance project like RDE needs, and since RDE offers ballet and contemporary dancing, this single product meets the project’s needs.

This dance floor also functions as both a practice and a performance space. It’s created with a manufacturing process that enhances the floor’s durability, so it won’t delaminate. Its versatility makes it ideal for a dance studio or group that can only afford one dance floor, and which needs that floor to support practice and performance.

This floor is available in black and grey options, creating a professional looking floor suitable for a wide array of performances. Additionally, since it’s available in custom cut lengths, venues and dance groups can order the exact amount of flooring that they need. This option helps to not only cut down on costs, but also reduces product waste and minimizes the amount of trimming that needs to be done.

The marley floor is easy to install, too, making it ideal for temporary use on stages that serve multiple purposes, or for transporting when dance groups tour. It can be installed over any hard, flat surface, including hardwood and concrete.
