Multiple time world champion BJJ fighter and MMA Coach Rodrigo Comprido Medeiros and training partner Marcelo Cazuza show the Mermaid Sweep in Part 6 of the 12-part Greatmats BJJ Training Series.

Hi. I'm Rodrigo Comprido. That's Marcelo Cazuza. We are here for the Greatmats Series. I will show you guys now the Mermaid Sweep.

I have my opponent in my closed guard and what I'm going to do is I'm going to bring him over me and I'm going to force him to move his weight to his hip and then make his knee very light.

What I do is I hold his belt and I sit up, hold his belt a little bit and I pull him over me, bringing also my legs to my chest.

Now, when he's over me and his knees are not touching the floor, I open my guard and I force my legs straight down, closing a triangle right above his knee line and hooking his feet.

Now he's like a mermaid. His legs are together. He doesn't have have much of a base with his legs. He has to base with his arms.

I will take my time here and what I'm probably going to do is look for one of his wrists and then I'm going to stretch in one direction.

On the opposite way and will come in his armpit and I'm going to push and swing my body outside. I keep my guard closed, my triangle lock and I start to sit up. Push the floor and I go over him and get in the mount position.
