Record-setting Blackbelt World Champion Rodrigo ''Comprido'' and training partner Marcelo ''Cazuza'' Kropotkin who you how to execute a back escape as part of Greatmats 12-part BJJ training Series.

''Hi. I'm Rodrigo Comprido. This is Marcelo Cazuza. We are here for the Greatmats Series. Now I'm going to show you guys a back escape.

This situation is, my opponent is attacking my back. He has the hooks. He has my lapel. Everytime he holds my lapel, he has his arm over my shoulder. The first thing I have to do is look at his elbow and escape to where his hand is pointing.

His hand actually works like and arrow telling me which way to go, but I have to keep looking to his elbow. I like to say his hand is pointing to the heaven, but I can't turn my back to the devil, so I have to keep going to the heaven and looking to the hell. This way the devil cannot jump on my back.

Knowing that, what I do is control his arm. Another thing I try to do is move my head. What he wants is his head is stopping me from putting my back on the floor, put my head on the floor. I try to swing my head on the other side to make my life much, much easier.

Then I keep controlling his arm. And then I will push the floor with my foot and I start bridging in this direction. Then I start rotating my hip. But what's very important to do now is step over his leg and hook his leg.

If I don't do that, once I start to escape, he will mount me and then I give him four points and I'm still in trouble. So I want to make sure I hook his leg. Like I say, I will move to the heaven and keep looking to the hell.

I keep escaping my hip with his leg trapped the whole time. Then I block him. He's going to keep coming to the top. I keep escaping and I have him in my open guard.

Some people like to try to roll and go to the top. That's ok, but sometimes you end up losing the position.

I just go straight to my guard.''
