- denatured alcohol (not included)
- applicator bottle (included in kit)
- Straight edge
Installation Instructions
1. Lay Out the Mats
Lay out the roll out mats where you want the mats to be installed. If any of the mats need to be cut to fit the space, do the cutting before applying any tape or glue. Once the mats are where you want them, then prepare the mats for the tape.
2. Cleaning the Seam
For brand new mats, lightly wipe down the seam that you’ll be taping with denatured alcohol. If the mat has already been used, clean the mat with standard mat cleaner and allow to dry completely first. Then wipe down with the denatured alcohol.
Make sure each mat section fits tightly against each other without any gaps along the seam.
3. Apply the tape
Pull back about 12 inches of the backing paper from the tape and apply the tape to the bottom of the mat, centered on the seam, and wrap it around to the top of the mat.
Remove about 24 inches of the backing. Pull the tape tight while lining it up with the middle of the seam. Then press down to apply.
Pro Tip: To line up the tape as you’re applying it, place a straight-edge along the seam, off-set by half the width of the tape (1-1/2 inches).
Using, the plastic applicator, firmly press down the taped area from your starting point and back again. If any wrinkles form, carefully lift the tape up and reapply.
Continue in this manner until the entire seam has been taped. Wrap the tape around the edge to the bottom of the mat. Cut off any excess tape.
4. Apply VLP Glue
Pro Tip: Test out the glue applicator to get a feeling for the right technique and the amount of pressure required to product an even bead of glue.
The entire height of the tape edge needs to be covered with the glue to create an optimal seal and a full lip. The VLP glue will shrink slightly when dry. Be sure to apply a generous bead.
Apply an even bead of glue to the entire edge of the tape. Repeat on the other edge of the tape.
Allow at least 12 hours to dry before 1st use.
Other Tips for Installation
VLP Glue starts to dry quickly. Keep the bottle capped when not in use.Use extra care when applying the VLP as it can be hard to clean up. If needed, quickly wipe up the glue and clean the area with a small amount of denatured alcohol.
Seam-Free Mat Tape isn’t recommended for use without VLP. The mat tape will start to roll up at the edges with extended use.
