How to Measure for Vinyl Gym Floor Covers
Date Published: 04-11 - 2025
The first thing you need to do is measure the length and width of the area you want to cover with Gym Vinyl.
It is important to also take obstacles into consideration like bleachers.
Here, the only concern is to protect the hardwood surface so they will not be covering the cement border.
Add a couple feet to the length and width to account for mistakes.
If your hardwood surface goes all the way to the wall, it is still not recommended to cover the entire gym.
Applying the cover is easier if there is smaller space left around the borders of the room.
If you want your cover to go to the end of the wall, it is recommended to use 5 ft wide runners perpendicular to the rolls to cover the ends and extend the cover to the base of the wall.
If you do this, we suggest ordering the main 10 ft rolls 5 ft shorter than the full length of the floor.
Many facilities don't have straight walls on the edges, like this one.
It is not recommended to extend the cover to all the nooks and crannies, but if you feel the need to, runners, to the length of the distance between obstacles, are the way to do it.
Measure the floor cover to the size of the floor within the obstacles and then measure the distance between each recess for additional
5 ft runners that fit between them.
Now that we have the floor dimensions covered, it's time to figure out how many panels we'll need.
Gym Floor Covers generally come in 10 ft wide rolls and go up to 130 or 140ft in length.
In order to make installation and connection of the individual rolls easy and secure, we suggest a minimum of six inches of overlap on each roll.
We also suggest that rolls run length wise down the gym floor to minimize the number of separate pieces needed to cover the floor, and the number of storage racks required.
This should give you enough information to determine how much
Gym Vinyl you'll need.
