Rodrigo Comprido Medeiros teaches how to pass an open guard.
"Hi. I"m Rodrigo Comprido. That's Marcelo Cazuza. We are here for the Greatmats Series, and I'm going to show you guys a guard pass.
So I'm in the open guard of my opponent.
What I'm going to do is I'm going to put my knee up, but I will not create a big gap between my heel and my butt where he can come and put his outside hook.
I will keep my heel close to my butt. And what I'm going to do is I'm going to start to push his knee down and come with my knee above his leg. Then I swing my arm to the crossface, the other hand to underhook and my back leg - I bring my knee up.
So I control him in this position, open my elbows and put my shoulder on his face.
It is important I touch my knee on the floor and my toes on the floor to keep control over his leg. And keep this knee up with my foot close to his butt. This we he cannot put me in the half guard anymore.
So I have this position here. What I'm going to do now is I'm going to pull my leg backward like a drop step - and I keep my hook in.
After my leg is free. Then I slide my hook and I switch positions. Switch positions with my leg and I get side control.
