Today we’re going to talk about the squat and how it applies to your everyday life.
What’s important about the squat is we all at some point have to sit down or get up from the ground. So that’s why it’s a really important functional movement.
We’re going to get our heels about shoulder width apart and we’re going to thing about a couple different things.
We’re going to think about keeping our knees in the outward position and our torso upright.
Another thing to keep in mind when you’re squatting is how deep do we squat. What I’m trying to do is, I’m trying to squat where the crease of my hip is below my knee. Once you get your technique down for your air squat, you can add on that by doing different things like front squats.
What we’re going to do is get the bar racked right up on your shoulders - right up against your neck - elbows facing forward. Same squat rules apply. That’s the front squat.
Back squat: You’re going to rest that bar on your shoulders, avoiding that neck bone, elbows back.
And finally, the overhead squat: In the overhead squat, you want to make sure your arms get locked out and you’re pressing the bar above your head.
