EVA Foam Tile Sink or Float Test - Royal Carpet Tiles, Grappling Mats & Karate Mats

Date Published: 08-23 - 2022

EVA foam is one of the softest and best impact absorbing flooring material around. It's also waterproof. With that being the case, we decided to test just how buoyant the material is by pushing three of our most popular products underwater in a swimming pool.
You may be surprised to find that submerging some of these tiles is quite the difficult task.
In this video we test the:
5/8 inch thick Royal Interlocking Carpet Tile - 2x2 feet in size (which features carpet bonded to an eva foam base): https://www.greatmats.com/products/interlocking-carpet.php
1 inch thick Martial Arts Karate Mats - 1x1 meter in size: https://www.greatmats.com/products/martial-arts-mats-1.php
1.5 inch thick Grappling MMA Mats - 1x1 meter in size: https://www.greatmats.com/mats/mma-mats.php
The sheer size and thickness of our 1x1 meter interlocking foam mats was enough to support children and keep them afloat while the thinner and smaller 2x2 foot tiles are easily submerged but quickly return to the surface.
