Can you Dribble a Basketball on EVA Foam Tiles

Date Published: 10-07 - 2022

As one of the most popular sports in the world, basketball has taken its game from gymnasiums to parks, garages and even basements. With that being the case, many people consider whether the flooring surface they install in these spaces is suitable for practicing or playing basketball on. On of those surfaces in question is EVA foam, which is popular for kids play areas, home gyms and martial arts studios.

We decided to put nine different styles of eva foam puzzle mats to the test. These tiles varied on thickness for 3/8 inch to 1 1/2 inch and also had a wide range of densities. One even had carpet bonded to the top.

We had no trouble dribbling a basketball on any of the tiles tested, although some did offer more benefits than other, such as noise reduction.
