Create Spaces for Dance Anywhere

If you are hosting a wedding reception, anniversary celebration, or an impromptu backyard party, Greatmats’ dance floor tiles give you a lightweight but durable DIY interlocking dance floor.

Our EZ portable dance floor tile uses snap together edges that make installation easy. These portable dance floor tiles are made for repeated installations, so you can use them many times.

With a lightweight design and a convenient 12-by-12-inch size, set up your dance tiles anywhere you want in no time. Return them to storage just as quickly after the party.

Trip Resistant Interlocking Dance Floor Tiles

If you are holding a party where elderly family members will be attending, our modular dance floor tiles have a design made to keep trip hazards to a minimum.

Installers can snap border pieces to the perimeter of our dance floor tiles for sale. Each border piece has a ramped design, eliminating the trip hazard on the raised edge of the layout.

Our snap-together dance floor fits tightly together, meaning there are no loose connections and raised edges across the face of the layout that could result in a trip hazard.

Versatile Options for Dance Floors

In addition to providing a space for dancing at a party or reception, this portable dance floor can create a space for students to practice dance at home. If you are taking dance classes online, this floor gives you a safe, stylish practice area.

It also works for creating an exercise space at home. It’s ideal for aerobics or similar types of exercise. EZ tiles are easy to clean, which reduces time required for maintenance after a sweaty exercise session.

Because it can go over carpet indoors, over grass outdoors, and almost anywhere in between, it delivers versatility that other types of flooring made for dance struggle to match.

Stylish Wood Look Design

These tiles have a high quality design made to resemble hardwood. This is a type of floor that works equally well for a backyard wedding reception or for setting up a dance area at a wedding reception in a luxury hotel ballroom.

Use them either indoors or temporarily outdoors to create an attractive space for hosting a dance. The different faux wood grain stain color options include:
  • Cherry
  • Maple
  • Dark oak
  • Light oak
  • Walnut

We also offer this model in a faux stone look that resembles a slate floor. The slate option is not recommended for tap dance.

Disclaimer
Slate color is not recommended for tap dance.

Maintenance

Clean with damp mop, hot water and common household floor cleaner.

Customer Rating: 5 Stars - EZ Portable Dance Floor Tile 5/8 Inch x 1x1 Ft.

Originally bought this section of floor for a dance floor over carpet but it works great as an office floor over tile. Easy ordering, shipment, and installation. Greatmats personnel are great to work with. (Teresa and Brett).

Customer Rating: 5 Stars - EZ Portable Dance Floor Tile 5/8 Inch x 1x1 Ft.

The tiles work great!
The snapping tabs are little stiff the first few times for setting up and if you ''break them in'' by pushing in the tabs, it becomes even more quick to setup with less effort.
It has high endurance, is good for high use, and also continual setups and teardowns.
Its easy to store.

It has worked with everything I could throw at it! With it also having such tight seamlines between the tiles, that I couldn't even fit my unboxing knifes edge between them when assembled.

For the uses I've so done far, like breakdance, or gliding footwork ( Like the moon walk ), I have no complaints of snagging or taking damage.
Although for those considering its foot use, I'm working in slip-off shoes(Yeah, I'm weird).

I did find that setting up on a level surface, and one that doesn't sink or is spongy helps, being that the tiles can pop apart from a persons weight.

( Loose ground like woodchips, I had to eventually place sheets of wooden 2x2s, and offset the tiles by 6in diagonally; so that the tile seams lines didn't line up with the panel seams lines below. )

Posting a few pictures of only 16 (out of 100) during an early setup trial using a thing wooden sheet, for both showcasing the 1x1ft size, and its wide versatility in possible deployments.
(Taken during late spring 2020 for)

Greatmats was quite helpful in reaching out to me over the order (My Color was out of stock), and due to my number being unable to receive any calls (The automated marketing spam has been terrible), they were very flexible and reached out to me over email.

Defiantly becoming a repeat customer.

Customer Rating: 4 Stars - EZ Portable Dance Floor Tile 5/8 Inch x 1x1 Ft.

It is a great investment. A bit of a headache to install over carpeted flooring, but it can be done. I am so super satisfied with the outcome in my home. Looking forward to dancing, training, and teaching in the space!

Customer Rating: 2 Stars - EZ Portable Dance Floor Tile 5/8 Inch x 1x1 Ft.

This product is designed for tap however it is incredibly slippery. I tried tapping on it once but my shoes keep slipping because the board has literally no grip. I am not sure why they made such a sleek surface but this is definitely not suitable for tap. I wish I had known better because I can’t even return it now.

Product Questions:

Q: Can this floor be used on grass?
A: Potentially yes, over very short and very flat grass. However, it's best to use the Portable Outdoor Floor Tile under the portable dance floor tiles as a base.
Q: Can this be used on top of carpet?
A: Yes, this can be installed over any hard flat surface, including carpeting. For plush carpets, it may not be a great idea, as the tiles might move too much up and down. For more information, visit our dance floors over carpet blog.
Q: Can this floor be used for tap dancing?
A: Yes, our Tap Kit product page, which is the same tiles, has a good video of someone tap dancing on the tiles. For installations larger than 3x3 ft, some people have commented that this floor tile may be a little slippery for tap shoes if moving around.
Q: Can this be used without buying the black edging?
A: Yes, the border ramps are not required.
Q: Can this be used over concrete? I am thinking of creating a dance floor in our basement for my daughter, who does Irish dancing.
A: Yes, it can be, and we would recommend a 2 or 3 mm rubber underlayment or something similar for some cushion from the concrete. This tile is great for dancing with tennis shoes or similar. For ballet, modern, or similar, use a marley vinyl dance flooring surface.
Q: I do pole fitness. Can it be cut to place a pole through it?
A: Yes, the material can be cut using a sharp utility knife.
Q: I'd like to put this down over my brand new hardwood floors so I can have my dance party. What is the underside of the flooring made of? Would it scratch my wood floors?
A: The base of the tiles is made of polypropylene plastic, which is a durable, hard plastic. If the tiles shift, it's possible that some scratching might occur. If the tiles don't move, I don't see a problem. You may also add a 2 mm or 3 mm underlayment for added protection and cushion.
Q: Can this flooring be used for Pointe?
A: It could be, and generally, for ballet, dancers want a surface that has few if no seams, so marley is preferable. For pointe, we recommend the Adagio Marley vinyl for a dance surface. We have a flat top click together tile that can be installed over carpeting, then put marley vinyl on top for a finished surface. Visit our Top 5 Ballet Floors blog for the best marley floor options.
Q: Is this floor good for practicing turns? Also, is it good for practicing lyrical and jazz?
A: The modular tiles have a commercial-grade vinyl surface and are not rated for traditional dance such as ballet, jazz, or lyrical. I would recommend one of our marley floors for your use.
Q: I am planning on putting together an outdoor dance studio for public use in the summer. How many tiles would I need to purchase for 50 people? And how is it stored for accessible transport?
A: We recommend 9 square feet of space per person for a general dance floor area; each tile is 1 SF, so about 450 SF would be suitable for 50 people. We have a Portable Dance Floor Transport Cart and a Portable Dance Floor Wood Cart that can be used for stacking and storing this portable dance flooring tile.
Q: Would this floor be adequate for practicing ballroom or Latin dancing? And is it feasible to create a small, temporary practice space a few days a week (in other words, install and break down every few days)?
A: Yes, this portable flooring tile option is very good for ballroom-type dancing. The tiles are 1x1 ft in size and easy to install, take apart, and re-install as needed.
Q: After installation, is there any noticeable space between each tile? I would like to use the flooring for breakdancing, and I do a lot of slides and spins along various parts of my body. Would the spacing between each tile be noticeable if I slid across the floor?
A: This is a great option for breakdancing. The tile seams are very minimal.
Q: Can this be used as a runway or aisle?
A: Sure, this is an option.
Q: Can this floor be used for a home yoga set-up? The floor would be set up on top of carpet, a yoga mat would be used on top, and it would be partly collapsed daily.
A: Yes, you can install this tile over carpet, and yes, you could do yoga on this surface. The tiles can be put together repeatedly, but I'm not sure I would want to put the tiles together and take them apart every day.
Q: What do you suggest for a floor that is currently covered with slightly uneven Mexican/Saltillo tile? They are roughly one foot square. We are hoping to practice Argentinian Tango on it, i.e., some turns and spins.
A: I would first install some 6 mm rubber underlayment to help level the floor, then install our Max Tile product as the finished surface.
Q: I pole dance and want to install a pole at home. However, I do not want to ruin my brand new carpet with the underside of the tiles or my pole. What would you suggest using underneath these tiles so it does not add severe indentations? The pole would be on top of the tiles. Would that also be safe not to move as this pole is not permanently fixed to the ceiling?
A: This is a good product for your purposes.
Q: Would this work for Highland dancing? There is a lot of jumping involved.
A: Yes, as long as the tiles are installed on a hard flat surface.
Q: Would it be possible to leave the tiles on the floor 24/7, or would you not recommend that? I thought it would be easy to leave them attached every day instead of taking them off and putting them back together every single day.
A: Yes, the tiles can be left installed as long as needed.
Q: About how many tiles do I need to create a dance floor for a backyard wedding? It’s a very small wedding
A: A common dance floor size is 20x20. You could go smaller for a smaller wedding. This blog might help you decide what size is best for your event.
Q: Can portable dance floor tiles be installed over a level gravel driveway?
A: For a temporary dance floor, you may install these over the gravel. It would work better using an outdoor tile as a subfloor, like our portable outdoor tiles.
Q: Can these be put on luxury vinyl planks for tap dancing? Will they scratch or damage the planks?
A: You may install these tiles directly over any hard, flat surface. You may lay construction paper beneath the tiles to help protect the subfloor.
Q: Can this floor be installed over ceramic tile and used for Zumba?
A: Yes, these portable dance tiles are a great aerobic floor and can be installed over any hard, flat surface.
Q: Are these tiles soundproof? We are living on the third floor, so I am looking for soundproof mats/tiles for tap dancing.
A: These are not soundproof. You can, however, dampen the noise by using a sound-reduction underlayment. Please give us a call for recommendations.
Q: Is a subfloor needed over concrete?
A: A subfloor is not required. However, installing a layer of rubber underlayment can increase comfort and help control sound.
Q: Do you have a dance floor recommendation to go over carpet?
A: This is your best stand alone option for over carpet. If you want to install a marley surface over carpet, you'll want a product like our Court Floor Tile Flat Top to go over the carpet first. Then you can install select marley products over the top of the court tiles. Feel free to give us a call at 877-822-6622 to further discuss this option.
Q: I want to install this as a larger dance floor, with the edges tapering to the floor. Are those pieces sold separately? How do I finish the edges of the flooring?
A: This border and corner piece are both compatible with this product.
Q: Can these be used over artificial turf?
A: Yes. It will work best over low-pile turf.
Q: Can you drive on this flooring?
A: This product is not designed for that use.
