Quality Tatami Judo Mat Checklist
1. Quality of the vinyl:
A heavy-weight vinyl ensures a long life.
2. Quality of the anti-skid:
Neither too soft nor too hard: too soft = poor durability because of crumbling. Too hard = not effective. Without a good antiskid, the tatami is not stable, and thus dangerous for the judoka. The GREEN HILL anti-skid is known for years for its effective and durable bottom of Judo mats.
3. Quality of the hotmelt reinforcement all around the anti-skid:
Makes sure that the anti-skid remains intact, and so ensures better life of the tatami. Some manufacturers 'forget' the hotmelt reinforcement.
4. Quality of the surface lamination:
The choice of the glue and the way of applying the glue is essential for good lamination. Only a producer, who supplies Judo mats since many years, can deliver a Judo mat which will pass the most severe durability test: the praxis in many clubs, all over the world. Green Hill has invested lots of time in developing the perfect lamination.
5. Quality of the edges:
Perfect 90 degree corners are essential if you want to lay out a smooth and perfectly matched surface, without dangerous gaps between the mats.
6. Uniformity of the mats:
If the weight of two mats is significantly different, the hardness is probably different too. Of course, you want an equal hardness all over the surface, for the benefit of the judokas.
7. Equal hardness:
This guarantees a stable and safe surface. A difference in hardness or exaggerated elasticity is uncomfortable and may cause severe injuries.
8. Exact dimensions:
If the mats show a tolerance on their dimensions of 5 mm or more, there is an increased risk of gaps between the mats with possible injuries as a result. In addition it becomes even more difficult to join the mats tightly together in a precise pattern. Assuring mats with a tolerance of 3 mm Green Hill is the market leader in terms of exact dimensions and safety.
Make sure that your mat manufacturer supplies you with the CRITT quality certificate as proof that your judo mat is generally accepted on the international level. Such statement is a guarantee for a safe, comfortable and durable mat.Over the last 25 years, Green Hill has been continuously improving the traditional Judo mat. Therefore, choose the only tatami that fulfills all criteria.
Prefer safety, durability and top-quality: GREEN HILL.
Cutting Instructions for 1x2 Meter Judomats
Always advise to start cutting from the antiskid bottom to the vinyl.
Do not cut through the vinyl, only cut until the vinyl layer.
Scrape the vinyl away and refold and glue the vinyl to the exposed foam core.
In this way you will remain a homogeneous look and foam is again protected.
It is really not that difficult and it does not require that much time to accomplish.
