Benefits of Noise Reduction Flooring

There are many reasons to invest in noise reduction mats and flooring. Here are just a few:

  1. Create a more enjoyable environment in multi-level dwellings
  2. Most sound flooring also offers thermal benefits, helping to regulate the temperature in your apartment or house
  3. Make a residential building more appealing, helping to quickly fill vacancies and minimize missed income
  4. Transform a commercial space into a quieter, more productive environment to draw in renters or customers

Choosing Your Noise Reduction Mats

Consider the following factors as you browse Greatmats' many noise reduction flooring options:

  1. Commercial or Residential - We offer sound flooring for both commercial and residential environments, so no matter where you're working, we'll have appropriate options for you.
  2. Selected Flooring - Consider what type of flooring you will be placing on top of the underlayment. Some underlayments are designed for use with specific types of flooring.
  3. Installation Environment - Will your underlayment need to contend with moisture? If so, consider an underlayment with an integrated moisture barrier. If mold or mildew is a concern, we have underlayments that inhibit the growth of mold and mildew.
  4. Desired Benefits - Some of our underlayments offer additional benefits, such as a comfortable floor underfoot or thermal comfort and regulation.
  5. Installation Method - We offer both mats and rolls of underlayment. The right product will depend on the size of your project and your desired installation method.

Greatmats offers a large selection of sound floor underlayments. This sound-reduction flooring generally consists of cork or rubber materials, which also provide thermal insulation benefits. Most sound flooring underlayment options come in large rolls ranging from 15 to 250 feet, as well as manageable 2x3 foot sheets.

Cork Underlayment

Benefits of Cork Underlayment:

  1. Eco-friendly; cork is a renewable resource
  2. Mold and mildew inhibition makes for a healthier environment
  3. Fire-resistant, cork won't release toxic gases or chemicals, making it a safer choice
  4. Naturally antibacterial; cork is ideal for people with allergies
  5. Excellent sound and thermal insulation properties make for a more enjoyable environment

Cork sound floor underlayment is made of a renewable resource that inhibits mold and adds some cushion to your floor. It's also naturally fire-resistant and will not release toxic gases or chemicals. For those with allergies, its natural antibacterial properties may come in quite handy.

The millions of tiny air-filled chambers provide both sound and thermal insulation benefits. If laid on flooring with rooms below, cork sound floor underlayment will not only prevent noise from traveling down to the room below but will also prevent noise from ricocheting up through the floor into the room in which it is installed.

Our cork noise reduction mats come in a variety of lengths ranging from 15 feet to 250 feet, with thicknesses ranging from 1.2 mm to 10 mm. The price range of acoustic buffering cork underlayment rolls is from 32 cents to around 3 dollars per square foot.

Sheets of cork underlayment for sound reduction are generally a little thicker and more conveniently sized than rolls of cork underlayment. They are 2x3 feet in size and have a thickness range of 6 mm to 13 mm. The price falls in the same general price range as cork underlayment rolls.

Our Cork Underlayment 12mm is available in 2x3 foot sheets for convenience and easy installation. This underlayment is suitable for both residential and commercial use. It helps to reduce sound and vibration, resulting in a quieter, more enjoyable space.

Rubber Underlayment

Benefits of Rubber Underlayment:

  1. Eco-friendly; rubber underlayment is made of recycled materials
  2. Highly durable, rubber can last for more than 20 years
  3. Dense rubber will not crush, ensuring your subfloor maintains its support and your flooring stays even

Our rubber sound floor underlayment options will not crush and are made from recycled materials in the USA. This sound underlayment works great for areas where athletic activity will take place and is expected to last more than 20 years.

We offer a line of SilentTread Rubber Sound Underlayment rolls. This noise-reduction flooring is a green product made from recycled rubber. They offer superior noise reduction, offering three times the sound-dampening weight of competing products. The rubber is crush-proof and will retain its noise-reduction capabilities for the entire life of the floor. Additionally, this underlayment includes an anti-microbial ingredient to prevent the growth of mold or mildew, contributing to a healthier environment.

This noise reduction underlayment option is available in 5/64 to 1/2 inch thicknesses. The thicker rubber roll varieties are offered in 25-foot rolls, while the 5/64-inch SilentTread Rubber Sound Underlayment rolls are 50 feet in length.
