Most Common Product Questions For rubber gym floor at Greatmats:
Is this product slippery when wet?
This tile made of PVC will become somewhat more slippery when wet.
Are there interlocking pieces to make a finished edge?
Yes. Each tile will come with two border edge strips. The borders are not ramped. They have a 90 degree angle edge and will serve to finish the side of the tile.
Will these mats discolor carpet?
We don't have any feedback from customers regarding this issue.
Do these mats offer enough protection for judo falls and throws?
Yes. They are the same thickness, at 1-5/8 inch, and material as our Pro MMA Grappling mats. Some people will also put 1/2 to 1 inch of extra foam padding underneath of the floor, or use a 2 inch 5x10 ft crash pad on top of the surface for take downs.
Will these reduce the shaking (and noise) that is caused by my kids jumping and running so the neighbors don't complain?
This tile can certainly help with noise. You may find it helpful to visit our knowledge base and read some of our blogs, such as this one on soundproofing kids floors.
Would these mats be slippery for dogs doing agility?
Most likely yes, we have a dog agility foam tile that is not slippery for dogs. It may be worth taking a look at this blog on the top 5 dog agility floors from our Knowledge Base collection.
If I wanted to apply these to a wall 4' x 5' area would they hold with velco strips on each tile?
Great question, not sure about this one. The tiles are not too heavy, its more a matter of if the velcro strips will stick to the tiles.
We need to set up and tear down our mats on the days that we use them. We need mats this size to fit in our storage closet. Will the mats hold up with this kind of use?
The tiles can be installed and reinstalled to some extent. This would depend on the number of times per week or per month.
I would like to put in my garage, could I park my car on these mats?
No these tiles can not support the weight of a car.
Based on an earlier question, I get the sense that these aren't necessarily designed to be put down and stored away frequently. What guidelines would you have for frequency with which these can be used and stored while still maintaining their integrity long term?
When taking the tiles apart, use caution and care to not damage the interlocking tabs and you should not have any issues.
Could these mats be used over carpet in an apartment, or do you foresee issues? -Plus ,would these hold up to a weight bench being placed on them? ( The mats would double as a BJJ area and weight training area.)
The mats might slip around on the carpet in small installations and the weight bench will likely leave indentations in these foam tiles.
Has anyone had any problems or concerns with the blue or red colors fading onto white Gi's when rolling? Thank you in advance.
All puzzle mats will have some color coming off issues in some cases, we are not sure if its the heat from the heat or the human sweat possibly.
Do the strips that are provided with the mats enable a 90 degree corner finish?
Yes some of the border strips have corners integrated.
Would these work well for P90X/T25/INSANITY workouts?
I would recommend our Plyometric rubber material for your exercises. The grappling mats may be too soft. If you wanted a foam tile, use the Home Sport and Play at 20 mm thickness.
Can these be used outside?
Maybe for a few hours, but not in sunlight, they are warrantied for indoor use.
Can these mats be used on a concrete floor or do they slip around?
These mats can be installed directly over concrete and will stay in place.
What's the difference between home and professional jiu jitsu mats?
The home mats are 2 ft x 2 ft in size. The commercial mats are 1 meter x 1 meter in size and required to ship via freight.
Can you exercise with tennis shoes on theses mats?
These mats are designed for use with bare feet or soft shoes only.
Does this Matt smell? Is it good for exercises with jumping without bothering the neighbors downstairs? What is your best product for quiet jumping exercise that doesn’t bother the neighbors below and doesn’t smell?
The foam mats may have a bit of a new smell, but with a quick cleaning, the smell will dissipate quickly. These foam mats are designed for martial arts training. They do not provide much bounce for jumping exercise. We do have other foam mats that would work better for your aerobic workouts.
I’m planning to install this over carpet flooring. Will this slide or would I need some sort of grip below to keep in place?
The foam tiles should not be installed over carpet. They require a hard flat sub floor.
Is the dimension of each tile 2'x2' with or without the 2 included border strips attached? Im wondering why the 'Quick Count Calculator' is telling me I would need 63 tiles for a 12'x16' area, while my calculations end up with 48 mats to cover that same area.
These foam mats measure 2x2 with borders on. If you are installing wall-to-wall in a 12x16 area, we suggest 53 mats. If you are installing in an open area, we suggest 48 mats.
I've been looking to buy a mat I mostly do wrestling and I'm just wondering about the texture of mats, and do they provide enough traction to take shots?
These grappling mats are great for wrestling, especially barefoot or with soft wrestling shoes.
I would like to use these for home aikido practice, and think 8 ft x 8 ft is about how much space I have (in my apartment living room.) I read the earlier Q&As, and am still uncertain about whether this type of mat would suit my situation/needs. 1. Will that size be ok/stable if put on top of carpet? (Thin, not plush carpet) 2. How quick and easy to lay out and pack up would it be each time I wanted to set up/clean up for practice? And will it last over many times of doing so? Thanks!
These mats require a hard and flat surface. They should not be installed over carpeting. For an 8x8 area, we suggest our 2 ft x 2 ft version of this mat here: https://www.greatmats.com/products/home-grappling-mats.php They are easy to install and disassemble.
What product(s)do you recommend for cleaning these mats? Are there any chemicals that shouldn't be used?
Any mild household floor cleaner would be fine. We do not recommend using bleach.
Which mat would be best for both BJJ and karate? Also, what is the disadvantage of putting such a mat over carpet?
The MMA mats work best for both. If you won't be doing any throwing then karate tiles are fine. We don't recommend use on carpeting because there are air pockets within the carpet fibers which cause any flat mat to slide around on carpeting. You would need to use double sided tape to hold the mats in place or possibly a rug stabilizing mat like what is used under an area rug on a hardwood floor would help keep them in place.
does the bevel edge with the 3ft x 3ft interlock with the 2 x 2 tiles so i could order and cut to length?
The interlocks for the 1x1 meter and 2x2 foot tiles are different and will not interlock with each other. The same applies to the border strips.
I just set up my mats and they seem really slick. Is there a way to fix this issue?
Hi, please try damp mopping the mats with a Dawn dish soap and water solution to remove any residue on them.
