Most Common Product Questions For rubber flooring roll at Greatmats:
Are play room mats PVC and phthalate free? Does the foam contain formaldehyde? Thank you, Julie
The manufacturer of our EVA foam tiles has provided us a test that states that one sample of an EVA foam tile passed a test that states the sample was free of formamide. We don't then state that all of our EVA foam tiles are formamide free, and I know that other supplies will promote this. The reason is that all the EVA foam tiles on the market are pretty much the same material. Formamide free EVA tiles can not exist, however the formamide will dissipate over time and one can get a passing test result after a few months of manufacturing. We source from the largest manufacturer of EVA foam tiles in world and I personally visit the factory each year and have much knowledge about the manufacturing process. I'll not state on my site what I know is not true. EVA foam tiles do not contain PVC material and thus no phthalates. Some blogs talk about EVA replacing PVC in foam tiles. This is not true; they are totally different materials. PVC is a plastic. EVA foam comes from the flip flop industry. Thank you David Butler President
Is this product safe for babies?
This is product will protect against an hard surface. The product is not tested for other safety features.
I am looking for a product to install at a Day Care Center. The product should be heavy duty and come in different bright colors. Suggestions?
We have various interlocking foam tiles which are very popular for daycare and childcare locations, however the foam tiles are not really designed for areas with tables and chairs. We have our Staylock line of flooring tiles which provide a 20 inch ASTM fall height rating and can be used with tables and chairs and are easy to clean and are very durable for a long period of time.
Can your Foam Floor Mats 5/8 Premium be installed outside?
All foam tiles will expand and potentially deform when exposed to heat and direct sunlight, so we can not warranty the foam tiles outdoors. The tiles are waterproof and will not absorb moisture. I believe some of our customer have used these tiles outdoors under portable swimming pools.
Will bed frames ruin the floor mat? Do we need to put anything under desk legs or bed frame legs to protect the floor?
Any small surface area that carries a load will intent the foam tiles. This can leave an almost permanent indentation, however this will not damage the foam tile per say. You can use coasters under such feet or legs to disperse the weight of the furniture.
Will these be able to lock with the 1/2 inch economy ones? If yes, will we notice a huge difference in thickness or will it blend in with the other 1/2 inch ones that are already in our basement?
The interlocking design of the tiles are the same, so the tiles should interlock together, the thickness difference is 3 mm.
Is this product safe to use on top of wooden floors? Will it stain or affect the finish on the wooden floors? Someone mentioned that there is a slippery coating on the tile as it comes out of the box.
The slippery coating mentioned may be on the top surface from the mold release agent, which can be cleaned off. The foam will act like a vapor barrier and may discolor polyurethane on wood floors, however our experience is that this discoloring is temporary. You might consider a sheet of construction craft paper between the tiles and the wood floor.
If you are not installing this wall to wall but only an area rug application, would they be slippery on a vinyl tile like standard area rug?
Most likely not, the bottom of the foam tiles has a bit of a grip on hardwood and tile, so it can depend on the surface and the activity.
How many are included in the package ?
We sell by the tile, so however many you order.
is this product safe to use on top of carpet? what would you recommend to place under foami
The foam tiles will not hurt the carpet. The tiles may slip around depending on the size of the installation and the activities performed on top of the tiles. Its best to install these foam tiles on a hard flat surface in order for the tiles to have a good connection to the surface.
Can this product be installed on top of carpeted room?
The foam tile are best installed over a hard flat surface in order to make good contact with the floor so they do not slip around.
Can I put adagio dance floor roll on top of these mats, or are they too soft/
These foam tiles are too soft for this, we recommend our Sport Designer Foam tiles for use as an underlayment under the Adagio marley vinyl material. The Sport Designer Foam is more firm.
Could these be used as an underlayment for a click-together hardwood flooring to add cushion?
Not sure about this question, I would think yes, but that would make a very thick underlayment.
These will go in basement gym. The cement floor has radiant heat however we never set the thermostat greater than 72 degrees most times it's just at 68th I'm wondering if this would be a problem regarding chemicals gases? If this product is not appropriate would PVC be a better option or is there something else you could recommend we do some P90X there thank you
These EVA/PE foam tiles are fine over in floor heat, no issues. For P90X you might consider the 7/8 inch thickness Home Sport and Play mats.
Can this tile be used for a dog room? Will it get scratched, and if there are any messes will it soak through?
The foam tiles can be scratched with dog claws and will not absorb moisture. For more information on this topic, you may want to check out our Knowledge Base blog comparing rubber and foam flooring for dog areas.
I have a home workshop (woodworking) on a concrete floor. This looks like the perfect material to place around my equipment to walk/stand on. The hard concrete is destroying my knees. Am I right?? Seem like a good application? Thanks

With two golden retrievers, we deal with a lot of dog hair. Are the mats easily vacuumed or does the dog hair stick to the foam mats?
These tiles have a finished surface texture which makes them easy to vacuum and a dogs claws can puncture this foam material.
Can the 15 piece minimum be a mix of different colors or does all 15 have to be of one color?
You can mix and match colors as needed to come to 15 total.
Are the edge pieces squared or beveled? Do you sell beveled edge pieces or have mats that come with beveled edge pieces?
In the foam tiles, we only have the square edges.
Can you paint any designs on these mats
We are not familiar with painting this type of foam tile.
I'm looking for some mats that are chroma key green. Do you know of anyone using your lime green in that capacity with success?
We have chroma key in commercial sheet vinyl.
Do you carry this in a 2 x 1 size?
Only the 2x2 ft size is available.
Our basement has sealed concrete, and it is my understanding that some materials (such as rubber) can potentially stick to the sealant. Can this happen with these EVA foam tiles, or are they okay to use on sealed concrete?
The foam tiles have not been known to stick to sealed concrete.
Can you use these in a room that’s used for foster kittens to protect the carpet? Will any liquids leak thru to carpet?
These foam tiles work best over a hard, flat surface. A low pile, commercial grade carpet would be okay. Thicker or padded carpeting may cause the tiles to unlock or come apart at the interlock. Liquid could leak between the seams in any application.
I'm looking for mats to be used in our fitness room; do they have any odor like the rubber mats? Trying to find an odorless product.
Finding a completely odorless product will be tricky. But, foam is a low odor product. We also have PVC Plastic gym tiles. I suggest getting a sample before making a purchase.
How do you clean foam mats?
Foam mats are cleaned with a damp mop and common household cleaner. Avoid bleach.
What can I use to disinfect these mats?
You can use common cleaners like dish soap, an anti-bacterial diluted with water or vinegar diluted with water. Avoid bleach.
Is this sound proof? we are in apartments and getting complaints on noise when kids are jumping and running on the floor. Will these mats help ?
These are not sound proof. But, they will help dampen the noise.
Could you tell me the weight of one mat? Also do you sell any mat with less than 5/8''width?

If the squares are 2x2 then to cover a 6 ft by 6 ft area it should only be 9 pieces. Why is the calculator saying I need 13 for a 6x6 area
There is a slight interlock loss when the tiles are connected together of 0.03 feet. The calculator takes that into account.
Can these be used outside on a screened porch
These mats are not designed for long-term outdoor use.
