Most Common Product Questions For life floor at Greatmats:
Do you recommend this product be installed over/on top of carpet? If not, do you have a product you would recommend to put on top of carpet?
All of our rubber flooring tiles and rolls are best installed over a hard flat surface. We can also recommend our EZ Floor underlayment, to go down first to create a more stable base for the interlocking tiles to be installed over. http://www.greatmats.com/floor-underlayment/lvt-floor-underlayment.php
Can you put this over carpet?
Yes, but only if the carpet is very flat with no padding, we can also recommend our EZ Floor underlayment, to go down first to create a more stable base for the interlocking tiles to be installed over. http://www.greatmats.com/floor-underlayment/lvt-floor-underlayment.php
Can these tiles be placed safely over a bamboo wood floor (i.e. without damaging the bamboo flooring)? It has been suggested to us that there may be moisture problems with placing rubber gym flooring over our bamboo floors in our home gym.
The rubber can act as a vapor barrier, so if moisture wants to come out of the wood you might see a moisture issue. We always recommend a plastic sheeting between all wood floors and all rubber flooring material, to avoid any leaching.
Are these tiles also available in edge and corner pieces?
This particular 2x2 ft rubber interlocking tile is not available in corner and border pieces, we do have other interlocking tiles have have corners and borders, see the product called 'Puzzle Tile' interlocking rubber tile.
Do apply an adhesive to the bottom of the tiles or is it just laid on top of the floor?
Generally you would not need adhesive for an interlocking tile, that is the benefit of an interlocking tile. No adhesive required. If you did choose to glue down, I would trowel down on the floor with a 1/16th inch notch. If I place these tiles directly on my basement floor, will mold grow under the tiles because they are directly laying on top of the porous concrete surface?
Mold will grow anywhere moisture is present. The mold growth would not be dependent upon the tiles, so the answer is very likely yes. You may consider a raised modular floor tile like our Staylock floor tile for a moist basement floor.
Could these mats be used in a horse stable aisle way only? Looking for something durable but could be less durable than an actual stall mat.
Most rubber tiles can be used with horses - for aisle ways we recommend at least 1/2 inch thickness and the rubber tiles with more of a pattern top will be less porous. Visit our <a href='/horse-stall-mats/top-five-horse-mats-for-barn-aisles.php'>top 5 barn aisle mat blog</a> for more ideas.
Should you offset the rubber tiles or does it matter?
These tiles can not be off set during installation.
Can you use these in a Garage? How do they hold up with car being parked on them.
Rubber is not designed for use with cars and can be installed on any hard flat surface.
What percentage of this product is post-consumer recycled?
100% of the rubber material is post consumer recycled content.
Can the tile be used outdoor and if so will it hold up in extreme temperatures both winter and summer?
This interlocking rubber floor tile is design for indoor use only.
Does this product off gas a rubber smell? I am sensitive to rubber off gas (for example I can not spend 5 min in our local tire shop) so want to make sure this won't smell for weeks/months if we install.
Yes. These interlocking rubber tiles will have a rubber smell. They are considered low odor. We suggest getting a sample.
Would this be suitable for advanced ballet and pointework?
Typically we recommend our plyometric rubber roll as a subfloor for ballet and pointework. If you were to use this, make sure to install marley on top. Dancing directly on rubber is not recommended.
