Can this be used in a karate room for high impact exercises?
For karate, please see our martial arts mats page. I would recommend at least 7/8 inch thickness, we have many options for home and professional use. The wood grain reversible could be used for small kids, however the surface texture is not as durable as our other martial arts flooring tile options.
Can these be put on carpet? I'm a personal trainer and will be putting equipment on the mats.
The foam tiles should be installed on a hard flat surface. They may bow or bend when installed on carpeting and used with exercise equipment, depending on the weight of the equipment. You may be better off with an interlocking rubber tile.
How do these hold up to kids - moving chairs, toy cars etc- and animals?
The non-wood grain side is more durable, the wood grain side may scratch from moving chairs or similar.
How can I see exactly what materials are used in this? My kids would be laying on it so want to ensure safety of materials.
This tile made from PE and EVA foam.
Can they be used outdoor/on a porch/deck/pergola?
No this tile is only rated for indoor use, exterior conditions will distort EVA foam tiles.
What tool is recommended for cutting these foam times?
Use a sharp utility knife to cut these EVA foam tiles. You can find installation and cutting instructions for foam tiles in our Knowledge Base.
Does the 2' x 2' dimensions of this foam tile INCLUDE or EXCLUDE the accompanying border strip?
The 2x2 ft size is average, and would not include the border strips, after interlocking the tiles together, each tile will loose .375 inches from 24 inches.
Yes, I would like to leave the flooring with the foam side up for days when children come over to play in the playroom. Would that be ok? or would it hurt the panels?
These tiles can be used either side up anytime, they are designed as a reversible flooring tile. The non-wood side is more durable.
Can I use this product in the bathroom?
Yes this can be used in the bathroom. The tiles are waterproof, its a closed cell EVA/PE foam material. Keep in mind, however, that water may work it's way through at the seams and become trapped beneath the tiles. So you may need to periodically, lift the foam tiles and allow for air drying. Would you use the tiles in a laundry room, with the washer and dryer on top of them?
The foam tiles are too soft to support the machines. I would use rubber under the weight of those machines.
I have already purchased the titles for my garage - gym. Do I need an underlay for moisture and insulation and if so, what kind?
These can be installed directly onto the concrete, you dont require an underlayment. The foam tiles are not suitable for parking the car on top of.
Can you put a pool table on it
You can but the table will crush the foam tiles, to reduce this somewhat, place a coaster under the feet of the table in order to disperse the weight.
How does this handle furniture like futons loveseat and end tables
This is a soft foam tile and is not designed to take the weight of furniture. You may be able to put plastic coasters under the feet of the furniture in order to disperse the weight.
Can you paint the tiles?
We dont have experience with this.
Does this flooring come with a case w/ wheels for transport?
We have trade show cases on the trade show category page.
How many pieces does each quantity come with
Each qty is one tile and covers 4 SF as the tile is 2x2 ft in size.
Can i use it for kids Basketball Court?
Not recommended, this foam tile is way to soft, you need a hard plastic snap together tile, such as our court tile.
My wife would like to use these in her (part-time) art teaching studio. How many times can you re-install them before the locks wear out How difficult is the non-wood grain side to clean paints from
This depends on the paint type, that is a hard question to answer, if the tiles are gently installed they will last a long while.
Can these be put on top of a heated concrete floor?
Foam tiles are completely safe to use over in-floor heating systems. However, foam does provide a layer of insulation between the floor and the room, so it may block a small amount of heat from escaping the floor. Further, foam tiles can expand with changes in heat and humidity. Specialty flooring leaders at Greatmats.com suggest it's best to allow foam tiles to acclimate to a room before installing. It's also smart to allow for a small gap between tiles and wall when executing wall-to-wall installations.
Hi We just got our foam tile floor in over a concrete basement floor and a couple hours later noticed small holes the size about that a pen or pencil might make in several of the tiles. The only activity in that room was our dog who weighs about 60 lbs had been sleeping on the floor. All we can think of is one of his claws made them but my wife just trimmed him the nite before. We have a date with the groomer to clip him on Monday but have 2 questions: 1 Will we need to watch him all the time in the future so this doesnt reoccur and 2 Do you have any idea of something that would seal the holes. Our dog is 5+ yrs old very easy going and does not chew on furniture or materials. He is a Brittany Spaniel. Thanx for your help we love the floor. Bob Gile Gordon WI
Foam tiles are susceptible to damage with dogs, long claws or short. You could try a contact cement to fill holes.
Does this come with beveled edges? I am worrying about it being a trip hazard.
These mats come with two detachable, straight border strip. They do not have beveled edges.
I am thinking about this flooring for a home gym room including treadmill, spin bike etc. how will it hold up with this equipment? If I put down rubber mats between equipment and flooring will it hold up?
We do not recommend placing your exercise equipment directly over these foam mats. You may use a rubber mat to help disperse the weight of the equipment.
Does this product have a smell? Is there any off-gassing? Can I use this to protect the floor for a punching bag stand? I plan to use it in the house.
This flooring is not designed for sport or athletic surfaces, the material is EVA foam and does have some light smell.
Is this safe to place on top of wood flooring? Will it damage or stain the wood flooring over time?
Interlocking foam tiles will act as a moisture barrier and may discolor the polyurethane on a hardwood flooring surface. Install craft paper first to avoid this. The discoloring will normally dissipate after the foam is removed.
Im wondering if these tiles will ho ok under a 750-800 lb. Pool table. Also how they hold up to animals nails? Example- great dane traffic?
A heavy pool table will cause indents in the foam flooring. We recommend using furniture coasters under the feet to help reduce the indentation. Cat and dog nails will scratch and puncture this flooring, causing cosmetic damage.
