After installing aquatic matting from Greatmats, customers can create an area that’s safe for people to walk even when standing water may be present that could create a slip and fall hazard.

With this type of floor, the material will let people walk without making contact with the subfloor. Any standing water will drain through the roll of aquatic matting, allowing it to reach the subfloor and drain away.

Size and Shape Options

The majority of our aquatic flooring options will appear in a roll format. This format simplifies the process of installing the roll for a particular use case. Afterward, customers can pick up the roll and place it in storage easily.

With PVC mesh and vinyl aquatic matting, multiple sizes of rolls are available. These rolls may measure 2 feet, 3 feet, or 4 feet in width. Lengths available include 2 feet, 5 feet, 10 feet, 20 feet, 33 feet, and 50 feet. Thickness options include 3/16 inches, 1/4 inches, and 3/8 inches.

Material Options

PVC plastic is the most common material for aquatic matting. It works for both indoor and outdoor usage, and it will stand up to constant sunlight and moisture without breaking down.

PVC, short for polyvinyl chloride, provides slip resistance, which is important in areas around a pool or in other areas of dampness. It also has a little bit of cushioning, which is why so many customers lay out this roll over cement around a pool, providing a safer space to walk with bare feet.

Vinyl is another option for this style of mat. The manufacturer uses a series of vinyl coils that provide cushioning over the top of concrete around a swimming pool. The coil design prevents water from pooling on top.

Pattern and Texture Options

Aquatic matting used as a runner typically does not have a textured pattern on it. The PVC plastic naturally provides a bit of grip for people walking across it without the need for an imprinted texture.

To allow for water to flow through the mat, rather than pooling on top of it, these PVC mats have perforations that extend through the entire thickness of the mat. Water will reach the ground underneath the mat quickly, allowing it to drain away as efficiently as possible.

PVC is available in a wide range of colors, including:
  • Beige
  • Black
  • Blue
  • Gray
  • Green
  • Red
  • White

Common Use Options

Although using these mats around a swimming pool is the most common use case, they will work in many different areas. The mats will appear in residential, retail, and commercial locations.

For commercial uses, customers may place the mats in a working repair garage where rain and snow may drip from cars. The mats create a safe place to walk and work. Factories and warehouses where moisture may be present also can make use of these mats successfully.

In a retail location, like a restaurant kitchen, these mats can provide a safe place to walk, just in case of spills. Hotels with pools, aquatic centers, and public swimming pools also may install these mats over the top of concrete, greatly reducing the possibility of slips.

A school might install these mats in a locker room or even underneath water fountains, providing a safer place to walk when moisture may be on the floor.

Installation Options

The manufacturer designs these mats for frequent installation and removal. There is no need to try to adhere these mats to the subfloor or concrete. The materials in use with these mats will give them a little bit of grip that should hold them in place against the subfloor until it’s time to remove them.

If placing the mat over a concrete walkway, try to center it in the area. Try to reduce the amount of concrete that is visible, so people can walk across the area as safely as possible.

Cleaning and Maintenance Requirements

Because our aquatic matting has a design made for use outdoors, it does not require challenging cleaning and maintenance techniques.

The majority of customers will simply rinse the mats with a garden hose and a power nozzle. This should remove any debris. Because water drains through these materials, the mats will dry on their own after a few hours.

Customers can spot clean the mats when stubborn soils are present.
