High quality flooring underlayment helps to deliver quiet and comfort for a home, an apartment, or a business. One of the best options that Greatmats offers is AcoustiCork rolls and tiles.

This commercial level underlayment will meet local building codes, while delivering cushioning and noise reduction. We offer these AcoustiCork products in a wide range of thickness measurements, making it easier to find the perfect model to support the flooring that will go over the top.

Size and Shape Options

Multiple sizes and configurations of this sound absorbing material are available. Rolls are the most common configuration, as installers can cover a large space in a short amount of time.

Rolls are available in many lengths, widths, and thicknesses. For example, the R60 model offers lengths of either 50 or 100 feet, a width of 4 feet, and a thickness of 6mm. As another option, the 10 mm cork underlay in the AcoustiCork RC1000 has only 15 feet of length.

Another option involves using 2x3 foot panels of underlay that can be a little easier to handle for installation in a smaller room. The S130 model is available in panels as a 13mm or a 1/2 inch cork underlayment.

With either a roll or a panel format, installers will need to glue the underlayment to the subfloor to create a secure fit.

Material Options

AcoustiCork consists of high quality materials that will provide excellent performance over a long period of time. Even though you cannot see the material after you place the primary flooring over the top, these underlays will continue to cut down on noise for the lifespan of the primary flooring material and longer.

Many of these products make use of a cork and rubber blend. The lightweight cork has a nice level of cushioning and noise reduction, while the rubber adds durability to the blend. The AcoustiCork R12 uses this blend to create an extremely thin underlay at less than 2mm that remains highly durable.

Another option is a cork and foam blend. The AcoustiCork Cork Plus 250 product improves the comfort for people who are walking over the top of the main flooring.

Greatmats also offers the R60 roll, which consists of 100% natural cork. This material is hypo-allergenic and works well under any kind of primary flooring material, like stone, ceramic, or wood.

Pattern and Texture Options

Because the design of the underlay will be underneath the main flooring, rather than being visible, it does not appear in several color or style options. It often appears in a light brown or dark brown color, resembling the natural colors found with cork.

The majority of these underlay products have a flat design with straight edges on all four sizes.

One exception is the PR60 roll, which uses a wave textured design, varying between 4mm and 6mm in thickness throughout the length of the roll.

The wave texture works best for engineered wood or laminate flooring layouts, minimizing the number of contact points the underlay makes with the underside of the main flooring. This design can improve noise suppression for areas where this is a priority.

Common Use Options

These underlayment products have one primary use case. They go underneath a main flooring layout to help with noise absorption and with providing cushioning.

If installing a stone or laminate flooring that does not have its own natural cushioning, placing this roll of cork underlay between the main flooring and the subfloor adds comfort while absorbing sound.

When installing an underlayment material in a commercial building, installers must follow local building codes. This natural cork or cork blended material will meet all code requirements.

Those constructing a green building appreciate the use of cork in the underlayment, as harvesting the cork bark from cork oak trees does not harm the tree. Cork underlay often is a recyclable material as well.

Installation Options

To install cork underlay rolls or panels, installers must use a glue down installation. Add adhesive to the subfloor and then lay the cork material over the top. This is a permanent type of installation. By using glue, the underlayment will not slide around against the subfloor.

Installers have the option of making use of a roll or a panel format. The roll will cover a large area quickly, but it is heavier than the individual panels.

Before installing the underlayment, store the material in the room where the installation will take place, allowing the material to adjust to the temperature and humidity levels in the room.

Fully clean the subflooring before installing the underlay. If the subfloor has significant cracks or imperfections, the installer should repair them before gluing the underlayment.

Cleaning and Maintenance Requirements

Because this product will go underneath the main area of flooring, there is no need to clean the underlayment, and customers do not need to perform any special maintenance techniques on the underlayment.

These products all carry at least a 5-year manufacturer’s limited warranty, and many of them carry a 10- or 15-year warranty.
