We also offer draining tiles made for open roof installations. Placing these draining tiles underneath the artificial turf will allow rainwater to drain easily, giving people a safe and comfortable place to sit and gather.

Size and Shape Options

Our rooftop turf is available in a roll format, which allows installers to quickly cover a significant amount of space in a short amount of time.

These rolls of synthetic grass typically measure 15 feet in width. Customers can then order a custom cut length to create the desired amount of square footage, or they can order a full roll that has 100 linear feet for 1,500 square feet of coverage.

Because of the size of these rolls, it can be difficult for installers to move the rolls into place on the rooftop deck without heavy machinery or multiple people available to carry the rolls. A roll will often weigh anywhere from 0.25 pounds to almost 1 pound per square foot of coverage.

For our square rooftop deck draining tiles, expect to receive about 7 square feet of coverage per tile with dimensions of 2.66 by 2.66 feet.

Material Options

These rolls of rooftop turf often make use of polyethylene and nylon materials that the manufacturer designs to look like individual blades of grass.

Selecting the desired pile heights in the blades will depend on the planned application. Some people will want a low pile height of 1/2 inches or 3/4 inches. Others may want a taller pile height measuring around 1-1/2 inches or 1-3/4 inches for a more cushioned feel.

The backing on the rolls of turf will often consist of woven polypropylene to secure the blades. Some manufacturers add a SilverBack polyurethane coating that tightly locks the blades in place, preventing unraveling.

To achieve extra cushioning, some rolls will include a foam segment attached to the backing layer. This thin foam, which usually measures about 5 mm (or 1/5 inches) in thickness, doesn’t add bulkiness to the turf but makes it more comfortable to walk across.

Pattern and Texture Options

One of the most popular aspects of our rooftop turf is the wide range of colors that are available. Although various shades of green are the most common colors to install, creating the appearance of actual grass, some installers prefer a different color. Available colors include:

Installation Options

To adhere the rolls of turf to your patio or deck area, the manufacturer typically recommends using a glue-down process. If you must lay two or more rolls adjacent to each other to cover the entire space, you can use seam tape to ensure the edges of the rolls do not curl.

If installing our interlocking drainage tiles underneath the roll of turf, these tiles use an interlocking edge design to connect to each other. You do not need to glue the tiles together or glue them to the subfloor.

Cleaning and Maintenance Requirements

This is a durable type of rooftop turf, and installers can lengthen the lifespan of the roll by maintaining and cleaning it on a regular basis.

To clean the artificial grass, you can run a vacuum cleaner over the top to remove debris. When you have our draining tiles installed underneath the roll of turf, you may be able to simply rinse the tiles with a garden hose and spray nozzle to clean them.

Avoid allowing people to use gum around the turf to reduce the possibility of significant problems with the cleanup. Additionally, avoid allowing people to introduce heated items or open flames around the turf.

If snow falls on the turf, you do not have to remove it (although you can). Snow should not harm the turf.
