Pool Patio Flooring & Hot Tub Surround Surfaces

This style of flooring is available as a roll that works well for larger square footage installations as well as in an interlocking tile format that’s nice for DIY installation jobs for smaller coverage spaces.

Size and Shape Options

Customers can purchase our pool surround coverings in rolls, tiles, and mats to go over the existing floor or cement.

Generally, the tiles will measure 1 by 1 foot, which makes them easy to handle for someone who is trying to do the installation work alone. Tiles work well in a small space like a concrete or wood deck around the above-ground pool or in-ground pool. Common thicknesses for tiles are 1/2 inches and 5/8 inches.

Large rolls of vinyl, PVC plastic, or artificial grass also work for installation ideas around pools. These types of rolls can appear in widths up to 15 feet, although widths of 3 feet or 4 feet are easier to handle. The lengths of rolls can be as much as 60 feet.

Rolls of vinyl and PVC typically range between 3/16 inches and 3/8 inches in thickness. Artificial turf can be as thick as 1-1/2 inches.

Material Options

Pool surrounds are available in a few different types of materials, all of which offer impressive durability.

Vinyl rolls may consist of a solid design that creates a nicer-looking area than bare concrete. This is a common installation in a customer-facing location, like near a hotel pool or at a country club pool.

Vinyl also appears in roll format, where the vinyl looks like individual coils, almost like individual carpet fibers. These coils allow water to drain through the material, and they yield cushioning when people are walking across the area in bare feet.

Artificial turf is another option for pool surrounds. It looks like natural grass. Actual grass could suffer damage when it constantly has chlorinated water splashed on it, so installing faux turf eliminates this problem.

PVC plastic is perhaps the most popular selection for installations around pools. It yields slip resistance and a little bit of cushioning over concrete. PVC has perforations in it that cause the splashed water to drain efficiently through to the concrete, ensuring it will not pool on top.

Pattern and Texture Options

It’s rare to find imprinted textures on flooring used as pool surrounds. Instead, this style of flooring often uses perforations, which means water will drain through, rather than pool on the surface and create a slip hazard.

Materials like PVC and artificial turf provide natural slip resistance, so they do not need a specialized texture to help prevent slips in wet areas.

Customers can select from several different colors with this type of swimming pool flooring, including:
  • Blue
  • Red
  • Yellow
  • Green
  • Orange
  • Pink
  • Black
  • Brown
  • Beige
  • Gray
  • Terra cotta
  • Tan

If the customer selects solid vinyl flooring to install around the pool, some models are available with an embossed surface that provides a little bit of texture and traction in damp conditions.

Common Use Options

The majority of installers will place these rolls, tiles, and mats over the top of cement or wood decks or patios around the swimming pool.

However, they will also work in commercial and retail locations where dampness is frequent. Some people may install these tiles and rolls in outdoor locations like playgrounds or rooftop patios.

For indoor use, consider installing the tiles and rolls in locker rooms and showers at a school or gymnasium. Another option is an installation in a commercial location, such as a warehouse or assembly line, where spills may occur. Tough PVC tiles are especially useful in these areas.

Installation Options

When installing this flooring as a roll, simply roll it out over the desired area. Installers can often dry lay the roll without having it slide around. However, for a permanent installation, using adhesive or vinyl tape on the roll may be the more desirable option.

With interlocking tiles, just line up the tabs on one side of the tile with the slots on the side of an adjacent tile and press them together. You do not have to add glue to the connecting pieces, as the interlocking system will lock tightly.

Cleaning and Maintenance Requirements

Because flooring made for use as pool surrounds can withstand significant exposure to moisture, cleaning the flooring is an easy process.

Just rinse the tiles or rolls as needed to remove any dust and debris. A setup as simple as a garden hose with a sprayer nozzle will work for the cleaning process.

When you want a more thorough cleaning process, gentle vinyl flooring cleaners applied with a mop and warm water will work well. Another option is to create your own cleaning solution with baking soda, hot water, and vinegar.
