Rubber Underlayment

  1. Mold and mildew resistant
  2. Dampens noises for a quieter environment
  3. Permanently resilient and will not become brittle with time
  4. Environmentally friendly, often consisting of tires that have been recycled and can often be recycled again in the future

The most common type is rubber floor underlayment. Versatile and offering excellent sound-dampening properties, it can be installed in areas where moisture may be an issue. It is resistant to mildew, making it a great choice for many applications.

It can be loose-laid or adhered with an adhesive strip, glue, staples, or tape. We offer it in a variety of thicknesses and designs to suit the project.

It is available for athletic installations. Athletic floor underlayment is designed to cushion the impact on the lower body joints when doing repetitive motions on hard flooring. This provides cushion on hard surfaces, like concrete, and does not break down or compress. Dry lay this for a simple installation.

Cork Underlayment

  1. Thermal insulation maintains warmth underfoot
  2. Durable material won't compress
  3. Moisture-resistant for a healthier living environment
  4. Hypoallergenic
  5. Environmentally renewable resource

This is a popular choice for both commercial and residential buildings where sound dampening is a priority. It has a “spring back” property that allows the corks to return to their original shape even after being compressed. Additionally, it is naturally filled with air pockets, making it an efficient thermal insulator.

Ours are found in sheets for easy handling and simplified installation. Think about our 3mm roll for use when the assembly system is ceramic, natural stone, or wood with a suspended ceiling.

For a thicker tile underlayment for tile floor installations, consider our 12mm product, available in a 2x3 foot sheet.

Soundproof Underlayment

This is made from recyclable tires and can yield points toward LEED Green Building Council Certification. The floor underlayments will not be crushed or degraded over time.

We have a variety of models in our catalog that are suitable for home or commercial projects. While exploring options, please don't hesitate to give us a call. Our experts would be happy to help find the right product. They can also provide samples and detailed information on shipping.

Floor Underlayment Q&A

What do floor underlayments do?
Here are the advantages of underlayment:
  1. Reduce sound vibrations and movement between floors
  2. Provide cushion to athletes
  3. Even out minor subflooring imperfections for a more stable feel underfoot
  4. Keep flooring feeling warmer by preventing cold from coming through
  5. Prevent water from permeating it (if purchased with vapor barriers)

Is a cork floor underlayment necessary for hardwood floors?
If there are concerns regarding dampness seeping through and reaching the hardwoods, the carpet padding, or the vinyl planks, such as in basements, then basement subfloor underlayment is a worthy investment. In areas with no worries about excess water, installing this is not a necessity.

What is the difference between subfloors and floor underlayment?
Subfloors are made to provide support to the structure of the flooring, and they are installed in the majority of homes and buildings. Choosing an underlayment is ideal when installers have a specific function in mind, such as noise reduction or the prevention of dampness from reaching the laminate and engineered wood.
