When installing a roll of carpeting, a roll of padding often goes down first to make the space more comfortable. However, the process of installing a roll of carpet can lead to some complications. Making use of carpet tiles with padding from Greatmats greatly simplifies the installation process.

These tiles have a top layer of durable carpeting and a lower layer with comfortable padding. These tiles provide the look of a roll of carpet, while remaining far easier to handle and to install than the roll.

Size and Shape Options

Our carpet tiles with padding are available in a few different sizes, helping customers find the perfect size for their needs.

The most common padded carpet tiles to install will have a size of 24 by 24 inches, providing about 4 square feet of coverage per tile.

You also may find rectangular tiles that measure 24 by 40 inches and square tiles that measure 1 by 1 meter (or about 3.28 by 3.28 feet).

Some tiles make use of a jigsaw puzzle-style edge that affects the total amount of coverage space you receive per tile. Others have a flat edge, so there is no loss of coverage space to the interlock edge.

Greatmats also offers a carpet tile with a pad layer in a pre-sized kit. With these kits, connection of all the pieces will result in a predetermined coverage size, such as 10 by 10 feet, 10 by 20 feet, or 20 by 20 feet.

Typically, these padded tiles with a top carpet layer will measure between 3/8 and 3/4 inches thick.

Material Options

Our carpet tiles with padding will consist of different materials in the top and bottom layers.

The top carpet layer often will consist of nylon or polyester fibers that provide significant durability.

The carpet layer on these products most commonly uses a low pile height and primarily works for high traffic areas where durability is key. However, some products use a taller pile height that creates a soft and comfortable feel when people are sitting on the floor.

The back padding layer may consist of polyurethane or a similar type of foam that yields a comfortable feel for those walking on or sitting on the floor. The backing layer may consist of natural woven jute fibers instead of foam. Jute fibers are not cheap, but they yield a highly durable flooring.

Some of these carpet tiles with padding make use of some recycled materials.

Pattern and Texture Options

The carpet layer naturally will have a texture to it. Some of these products have a low pile height and a rougher texture for durability. Others may use a taller pile height that feels softer.

Customers can select among multiple colors and patterns in the carpet.

Many of the carpet tiles have a neutral color, which is ideal for flooring. Neutral-colored carpeting is easier to clean than light-colored or bright-colored carpeting. It also will complement nearly any current colors the customer is using the room.

Some models of these styles of carpeting will include subtle brown, blue, or green shades, in addition to grays.

Some of our carpet tiles with padding include a geometric pattern on the carpet layer, adding an eye-catching aspect to the layout.

Common Use Options

Because these tiles often go directly over wood or concrete, they are a popular selection for a quick installation at home. They work well to generate cushioning in a basement with a concrete floor.

Some people will choose to install them in a trade show booth, using one of the pre-sized kits, to create a comfortable space for standing and working for an entire day.

Our highly durable padded tiles are usable in commercial or retail locations too, offering long-lasting comfort. Some of our other customers include churches, schools, or government buildings like libraries.

Installation Options

The installation process for these tiles will depend on the model of tile that you select.

Some of these tiles use a pre-applied adhesive on the back of the tile. This adhesive holds the tiles tight to the subfloor for a semi-permanent installation. Should you need to remove the tiles later it is a little easier to do so with this type of tile than when using separate carpet adhesive on the back.

For the interlocking edge tiles, customers do not need to add glue to the edges to ensure they stay in place. The attachment process with the tabs and slots on the edges of the tiles keeps them tightly connected until the customer wants to disassemble them.

For a permanent installation, customers can glue them to the subfloor, but they also work nicely for a dry lay, wall-to-wall installation.

Cleaning and Maintenance Requirements

Clean these carpet tiles with padding just like you would clean a roll of carpeting. Start by vacuuming the carpet on a regular basis to remove any debris. In high-traffic areas, daily vacuuming may be necessary.

If the carpeting becomes soiled, the customer can make use of a carpet cleaning machine or a spot remover.
