General guidelines
The material must be transported and stored vertically. Before starting work check whether the material comes from the same lot number and lay in ascending or descending numerical order to ensure continuity. Store the WoodFlexTM or GameflexTM product at room temperature for a minimum of 24 hours before installation. To guarantee problem-free installation, the sub-floor, room and adhesive should not exceed a temperature of 59°F.

Woodflex Gym FloorPreparing the sub-floor surface
The sub-floor should be smooth, level, clean, completely dry, free from cracks and dust. It should conform to the requirements of VOB DIN 18365. Before laying the sheets, the surface should be checked for moisture content. If the product is laid on coarse-pored screed and on anhydrite or plaster screeds and/or other constructions, the firmness of the surface should be tested by appropriate methods before installing. The surface should always be smoothed with absorbent, cement-bound filler. An appropriate sealing membrane should be introduced for floor constructions that lie directly on the sub-floor. In cases of doubt, please consult the person in charge before starting work.

Note for radiant-heated floors
If installing on radiant-heated floors it is important to ensure after an appropriate period that the sub-floor has completely dried out. When installing, the heating should be switched off or be running low, so that the surface temperature is suitable for installation. The latest specifications should always be consulted for this. The heating report should be available before installation.

Installation Instructions
  1. Cut the roll to length, leaving an excess of at least 2 inches. The edges of the sheets are to be cut in such a way that they form a tight-butted joint, following the direction of the arrows on the back of the roll. Make the butt joints either by the straight edge method or with a seam strip cutter (dual blade). Note the batch number and consecutive roll numbers. The seams should run in the same direction as the main source of light. Important: for sport court installations, hiding the butt seams under the court lines is recommended.

  2. Trim off surplus material along the wall.

  3. Mark the position of the first roll in pencil on the floor.

  4. Fold the rolls back onto themselves with the backing uppermost and spread adhesive with a notched adhesive trowel. Follow the adhesive manufacturers' recommendations regarding coverage, drying times, open times etc. Full spread adhesive is recommended; 'perimeter gluing' is not recommended.

  5. Unroll the second roll following the markings on the floor. Stick down the consecutive rolls in the same way, placing them edge-to-edge with normal butt joints. Smooth out each roll vigorously as it is laid with a roller, working away from the center towards the edges to remove all air bubbles and ensure good adhesion to the sub-floor. Proceed quickly with installation in the second half of the room.

  6. Trim off surplus vinyl along walls and skirting boards with a fine hook blade and smooth out vigorously.

  7. Once finished, smooth the entire floor again with a roller.
Note: In areas where WoodflexTM and/or GameflexTM is installed under portable bleachers, epoxy adhesive as well as heat welding is recommended.

General Welding Techniques
Welding is to be done at least 24 hours after installation if a standard adhesive has been used. When using contact adhesive do this at least 2 hours after installation.
Note: We do not recommend cold-welding this product.

Heat Welding
Welding rods of 4mm diameter are available for all floor covering qualities in matching colors.
  1. Lay the sheets edge to edge with normal butt joints. Chamfer the seams to a V or U shape (recommended depth: 3-3.5 mm) using an electric groove maker.

  2. It is preferable to use manual welding equipment in small spaces; welding machines in large rooms.

  3. After cooling roughly cut the projecting part of the welding tape using a sliding block.

  4. When the weld seam has set and completely cooled, trim the excess cleanly, flush with the surface using a crescent knife. This will prevent collapse of the welded seam.

Pre-Maintenance Steps for the Newly Installed Floor
  1. Keep all foot traffic off the floor for 12 hours.

  2. Keep furniture, fixtures, and rolling traffic off the floor for 48 hours.

  3. Use plywood or other board when moving heavy objects across the floor.

  4. Remove any adhesive residue with a clean white clot dampened with mineral spirits.

  5. During the first 6 days, lightly damp mop the floor as needed. Do not heavy clean the floor for 7 days.

Finish Process
  1. Sweep or dust mop the floor to remove dirt and grit.

  2. All areas must be completely dry before applying any surface coatings.

  3. Apply GREATMATS.COM approved floor finish.
