Humane stall mats are simple and easy to install. Refer to the layout on the equine matting sheet included with your order to see how the mats will be positioned in your stall. Make sure that the sub-surface is correctly prepared. Cutting Mats are easily cut to fit a size, or around obstructions. We recommend using a utility knife with a straight knife. Scribe the mat several times with the knife until the mat is cut through. For lager jobs, you may want to use a reciprocating sawzall. Humane has blades available for this use. 
Sub-Surface PreparationThe stall sub surface is important. Humane mats can be placed over concrete, asphalt, wood, or any level well-compacted surface that is not affected by freeze/thaw conditions. Clean the existing stall surface of any old bedding. It is not necessary to wash down or dry the stall subsurface. Moisture will not affect Humane mats. An economical alternative to a concrete or asphalt sub surface are crusher fines. These are available at rock quarries that crush stone. Depending on the location, commonly found materials are limestone or granite fines, which should not exceed 1/8" in size. The fines are easy to work with, compact well, provide good drainage and stand up well freeze/thaw conditions. Fines should be installed to a depth of 4"-5" which may require excavating some of the existing material to maintain current stall elevations. It is important that the fines are well compacted. Use water to soak the material aiding in the compaction process. Once the material has been stabilized and leveled, install your mats. |
