Playground Flooring Tiles

Rubber provides a layer of fall-height protection. It is ideal for rubber surface playgrounds at schools, churches, and parks. Rubber playground mats are also available for homeowners and smaller facilities. Playground flooring is available in straightedge or interlocking outdoor rubber tiles. Choose the ideal playground mat for your equipment height by matching our thickness to your fall-height requirement. Depending on the rubber floor surface you choose, you can select either interlocking or straight-edged rubber tiles. Some installations will require a complete glue-down where others allow you to glue down the perimeter and ''float'' the interior tiles. See below for surface prep requirements for playground flooring.

Rubber playground flooring adds a consistent layer of fall-height protection that you can't get from sand, wood chips, or rubber crumbs. More and more states and municipalities are imposing regulations on playground surfacing especially in areas where slides, swings, and other equipment is placed. The tiles stay in place and do not require daily maintenance to maintain a consistent fall height rating. Available in either rubber or soft PVC, we have playground tiles for both home and commercial use.

Rubber playground mats are an increasingly popular substitute for wood chips and rubber crumb materials. Playground rubber tiles will last for 20 years in most installations. Tiles also make it much more difficult for foreign objects such as broken glass or nails to hide under your equipment compared to wood chips, sand, or rubber crumbs. Tiles are also more convenient than ''pour-in-place'' playground flooring options because replacing a couple worn tiles is an easier fix than repairing worn areas of poured flooring.

Rubber playground mats are available in several bright or natural colors options. Forest green, red, and terracotta are the most popular playground mat colors.

Playground flooring is typically installed by professional landscape contractors. In residential applications, most homeowners will be able to install playground mats on their own. We provide installation instructions and phone assistance for all of our playground rubber mats and rubber flooring options.

The type of installation required will depend on the product you choose. Some playground mats can be connected together with a pin system. Others have interlocking tabs that are glued together. Neither of these options requires a full glue-down installation method.

For most playground flooring options, we recommend a hard, flat sub-surface such as compacted and leveled crushed stone as a base. Existing concrete or asphalt will work as well. Our modular flexible PVC playground tiles can be installed on any outdoor surface include grass, sand, dirt and stone. PVC tiles provide a 20'' fall height protection and are ideal for toddlers on smaller playground equipment.

Many people wonder why playground mats need a solid subsurface. Laying rubber playground tiles over dirt, sand, or grass will first. However, as the ground begins to erode beneath the tiles, your playground surface will become uneven. This leads to a variety of problems. The biggest issue is that, as some tiles sink, others will not. This creates tripping hazards and creates low areas in your rubber surface. Water will naturally find these low lying areas and the erosion will accelerate. A subfloor of compacted gravel or concrete eliminates this problem and alleviates extra work down the line.

Homeowners and pre-school or daycare locations will appreciate the easy installation of our Staylock Perforated Tiles. This product features a 20-inch fall height rating and is an excellent choice for any outdoor floor surface. Unlike all our other playground flooring, it does not require any special surface preparation prior to installation. These playground mats will easily and simply interlock together with tab and loop connectors. Border edge strips are also available.

Greatmats also carries playground mats for indoor playground locations that provide a four-foot fall height rating. These are made of EVA foam material and are an easy-to-install interlocking foam mat. Indoor playground mats feature a durable tatami style top texture that is comfortable for bare feet or socks.

Swing mats are available to protect and maintain the ground from getting dug up in high traffic playground areas. Use these types of playground mats in places where your playground gets extra wear and tear such as slide landing zones or under swings.

We distribute for many rubber flooring and matting manufacturers around the country. This allows us to select the best option for your location to help reduce shipping costs. Shipping of all 2x2 ft rubber playground tiles is via freight delivery. Our modular 1x1 ft playground flooring can ships via ground service for smaller installations.
